Does anyone have either of these? I’m thinking of getting one for Gracie and I can’t decide which.
I want to buy her a decent educational gift which is suitably fun. She’s newly 5 and in Primary 1 (Scotland)

She has asked for a globe but not specifically an interactive globe, so if I don’t go for the globe we will get her a globe nightlight.

Relevant background is that I’m a geography teacher - for me, it’s reason to go for the interactive globe, for df it’s reason to go for Osmo as I can teach her the geography myself!

I've not got either, my mum has got one of the boys some sort of interactive globe for Christmas but I only saw a screenshot of her orders list so not sure what kind.
I was going to say the globe but having looked again at the osmo is seems there's a lot more that can be done with that

The osmo is definitely more versatile, what’s putting me off is that you need to buy extension packs for different activities and there are lots of “parts” which has the potential to end up being clutter. It’s also quite expensive to keep getting all the extension packs. It’s only compatible with either the Amazon fire or the Apple models, so if we upgrade her tablet to an iPad we would need to start again.
The globe is likely to be grown out faster too, I guess. But I think she would keep it for use purely as a globe.

We have the Osmo Brilliant kit. I got it last year just as DD was turning 6. I'm glad I got it on a good sale, because it didn't keep dd's attention very long. She has pulled it out to use probably 4 or 5 times at most over the last year, and that's with me encouraging her. I never bothered with any of the other kits because I didn't find much value with the one we had. You may like it; it just wasn't for us. At age 7, she would love the interactive globe. We got the usual globe, and she loves using it to find other places.

I've no idea what the Osmo is so will have a Google out of interest.

My dad got the girls the globe last year. They do play with it occasionally (mainly DD2 as DD1 is not interested in anything educational)
I still think it's a good thing to have as even me and DH challenge each other over what we know (or think we do) :-)

Thank you! We have various globes and maps around the house and she loves them, so I do think she would play with the globe. I hate wasting money so I’m conscious that I want something which will be played with for a long time. I’m trying to buy responsibly. Price isn’t so much an issue as we don’t buy tonnes of presents, but longevity and use is.

The osmo looks great on the surface. It’s basically a device that allows you to play with physical objects and your tablet together. Kind of hard to explain but definitely worth a google, it’s quite versatile !
Which globe do you have, is it the leapfrog one?

I don't know what OSMO is, will Google it later, but ds does have a globe, I got it for Christmas when he was about 5. It's not an interactive one but does have a light which shows up the constellations when it's on. At times it seems like it's just a nice ornament but then I'll see Ds using it to find somewhere or because he has homework, or at night with the constellations on looking out at the sky.

That’s the one df likes the look of. We are in the middle of massive house renovations and dd currently has no ceiling light in half of her room (it’s huge, with an arch in the middle, and the dark half has no windows either!) so he wants as many lamps in the room until the renovations are finished and she gets her ceiling light back. I don’t know that it’s worth it considering it’s a temporary problem, and she really doesn’t mind as that part of her room has just got her bed and clothes, her play room is in the other half with the windows and lights.

she does love stars/space too so constellations might be an idea!

It doesn't give off a bright light but Ds likes it.
If you are trying to come up with a temporary fix to a dark area have you look at LED strip lights, you get them in lots of places (something like this Amazon.co.uk : led strip lights with remote ) my niece has it in her room and because it can be set to any colour it's not overpowering, her sister has asked for them this year after seeing how her sister uses them.

The light fixture is actually easily fixed - df overscrewed a lightbulb and cracked it! I think they cost £2 to replace, but we are getting spotlights fitted when we get the ceiling replastered. We have had the whole house except the bedrooms done so far and can’t face doing anything else right now the plan was that we would have been done by September, then October, then Christmas. Nope.

Oh how well I know the feeling!!! I've got several jobs started, diy stuff in the rooms that aren't being done and no end in site for most of it! Non of it's as huge as your project but it's all footery stuff that takes time....
