Out of date Ellas Kitchen pouches purchased....

I went to Asda a couple of weeks back and bought 6 Ellas Kitchen pouches.
Have used 4 of them. I came to use one yesterday and it came out like brown mush. I checked the date on it and it was dated Nov 12!!!
Would this have done any harm if my DD had ate some? With it being fruit and 3 months out of date?
I have another with the same date on!
Should I contact Trading Standards about it?

If it had done any harm I'm sure you'd have noticed by now but I would definitely get on to asda! They may even compensate with freebies but I would give them chance to rectify and apologize before ringing trading standards. If they don't take you seriously then I'd ring them. I'll be checking dates in the future.

Yes I'd go to Asda rather that trading standards too. They'll probably be more than willing to compensate you x

I'd go to Asda & show them the out of date packets. I'd also check if they still have them on the shelf & point that out too. Like pp said though, if she's not showing any signs of being ill, chances are she's okay xx

Gosh youve made me worried now cos i dont tend to look at the best before dates i just assume it will be safe with it being baby food! Im gonna check now. Definitely go back to Asda customer service and maybe email ellas kitchen about it too?

It depends....is the date a "use by" date or a "best before" date? There is a difference.

If it's the "use by" date then I would be speaking to the Asda branch Manager and informing him/her of this. I saw another post stating about compensation. They may well offer this as a matter of goodwill on their behalf due to the error. Personally I would be asking them what their measures are for stock rotation to ensure thes same thing does not occur again.

Its probably the staffs fault at asdas for not rotating stock properly.. Its easy for a lazy staff member to put the new ones at the front, which get sold quickly and forget to rotate.. I'd just take them back and get new ones.

Asda are appalling at stock rotation I have been in there before and there has been bread weeks out of date and mouldy and the staff are nearby and just don't seem to care. Having said that pouches are like jars and tins, they don't go off per se but the colour or taste may change or fade, it's unlikely to do any harm but you should take them back and alert them just in case xx

Hi,

After reading a couple of posts in reference to Asda. If the stock rotation is so bad and they are selling items that are;

a) not fit for purpose;
b) not in a satisfactory condition

My advice would be to contact Trading Standards with the store details and they will investigate.

They simply should not be able to think that the regulations do not apply to them.
