I had my blood drawn for the first time last week at 5+2 and it came back at 2741. The lab report stated that this was out of range. Since I procured this beta outside of a doctor's office, there really isn't anyone I can go over the results with. I was fine with getting the number, but seeing "Out of Range" on the lab report worried me some.

I work in the lab. Out of range means that the level is either high or low . For HCG high would be anything above 5 because normal non pregnant females have a HCG level of less than 5. So your number is "out of range" for a normal non pregnant female (which is lab talk for "you're pregnant"). Lab tests are not tied to your condition/diagnosis. We do not look at the reason why the doctor orders a test (usually). We just perform the test. The doctor is the one that gets the results and interprets them in relation to your symptoms . Hope this helps.

This was helpful. I didn't know if it was too low for my stage at 5 weeks. I have seen such a wide range of HCG numbers in the early stages of pregnancy. I am going back in tomorrow to get another draw. It will be 6 days from the last one, so I hope to see a significant increase. Thanks again!!

Yes HCG levels have a really wide range. The only thing that matters is that it doubles about every 2-3 days. Good luck tomorrow. Keep us updated!

Keep in mind that after your hCG levels reach 2,000 and higher, they do not double as fast. So do NOT look for a 48 hour doubling time, or you'll freak yourself out unnecessarily. It can take 3-4 days for doubling when the levels get higher.

Her number wasn't particularly high for 5 weeks. Pretty ordinary for a singleton, actually. Check out betabase.info for averages, highs and lows for single and twin pregnancies, on different dpo.

Mine was in the 300-400's OP, at 5 weeks.

You are at the higher end, but here is the chart in case anyone would like to see.

If it does end up being twins please PM me! :haha:

I am interested in this b/c with my son I had very, very high HCG and with my little girl not as high. They swore he was twins, the entire time.

That seems very high for 5 weeks, do twins run in your family?

Twins do not run in my family. My husband joked that I could end up with the 3 kids I wanted if this pregnancy resulted in twins. I'll take what I can get, but with a 10 month old already, that would end up being pretty crazy!!
