Paternity Leave

Hello All,
Baby brain here... trying to work out paternity, done the calculator on gov. website and put in the due date 15th Dec.

It says that paternity can be taken from this date, but (baby brain) can it be taken if bubba not here? looked on internet and can't find an answer?!?!

OH has booked Christmas week and first two weeks in Jan as hol so only technically need the 1 week paternity.

So, can he take leave from 15th Dec. right through his holidays even if no baby is here on the 15th...

I hope that makes sense to somebody and that you might know the answer.

Hiya,

No paternity can't start before the actual birth of the child.

Can he not adjust his holiday to run straight after paternity leave?

My oh wrote a letter and said that he obviously didn't know when I would go into labour and he had two weeks holiday that he wanted to run right after his paternity, but that he obviously couldn't give an exact date. He gave my due date (10th) but baby wasn't born until the 25th. I was taken in for induction22nd which was planned (obviously) so he could then tell work he wanted paternity from the 22nd and his holiday ran right after.

Your partners work should be accommodating to his needs if he does something similar.

Also that way he's not really losing his paternity leave and still getting his holiday (and an extra week off), although I understand if finances are the reason x
