Hi, I got PCOS and am currently taking Metformin at 2,000mg daily.

My cycles are pretty long so I don't really know which day I'm at now....probably about CD 37 / 38.

Anybody out there with PCOS and who's taking Metformin? Would love to have a TTC buddy.

The only other buddy I had got pregnant on Metformin after about 2 months, so I got no more PCOS / Metformin buddy anymore.

I am taking 1000mg a day of metformin for pcos, have been taking it since 2nd April 2010, already have regular cycles but trying to keep my hopes up that this will work for me. At least that is good news that your last buddy got pregnant! Fingers crossed for us x

Hi girls, i have pcos and going to get metformin next monday. I'm on cd 180 or more now lol... haven't had af since nov :(

How are you finding metformin?
How long have you both been trying?

x

Hey! Its a great start that you have regular cycles. How did your doc. diagnose your PCOS then? Is it because of the LH / FSh hormone levels? Yeah, it IS good news that she got pregnant on Metformin. Though she did have some help with Clomid though. She took it on the cycle before the cycle she conceived. Some ppl say that Clomid stays a while in your body, so perhaps it was a combination of both.

How long have you been TTCing?

Hello Rach! Oh, I recognise the CD 180 cycle. My longest cycle was 4.5 months. Argh. May I know how did you conceive your first baby with PCOS then?

I started NTNP since June 2009, but that was when I got my 4.5 month cycle, followed by 2 regular AFs and now another 42-day cycle and counting.

Did your doctor diagnose the cause of your PCOS?

Hi'ya :)
I was diagnosed with pcos early 2006. Took over 6 months to diagnose as my hormone levels were all just stlightly over boarder line. So lots of repetitive bloods taken and 2 u/sounds.
We weren't properly trying for a baby back then so just took the ntnp approach. Something went right somewhere tho as conceived Brooke in Oct 2007. No help. The only thing different was that i had lost 7 lbs. That was it honestly!
I feel so lucky and blessed to have her. She is my world but we would so love to give her a brother or sister.
I went on Microgynon to regulate my body after having her (suffered the usual pcos sh!t) but in Oct ditched it to try for another. Since then i havent had a period.
Have been to the docs who said if i managed to get preggy once with no help then i could again and that the main cause (polycystic ovaries) would have cured and sorted themselves out. Well that wasn't the case. I managed to get an u/s last month and the cysts are still there. Completelly covered (as before).
He said to give it until end of May then try Metformin if i hadn't come on by then.
I am so angry with my body! I know i am so so lucky to have Brooke and not a single day goes by that i don't think that, but i've done it once right?!
It doesn't seem to get any easier.
Now i just feel added pressure because i dont want a huge age gap between them.

How are you finding metformin? Has it made you feel ill at all?

Hey Rach,
WOW! SOunds like you really had a miracle baby! No help at all! Though 7 lbs is quite a bit of weight! Yeah, I think its always the same reason of "If you've conceived before, it shouldn't be a problem"....that's what I used to think before, until I met other women in BnB who didn't have trouble conceiving the first one and the second / third one is taking a long time...and I agree with you about not wanting a huge age gap....

Well, Metformin made me real sick at the beginning. If you want to, you could take a look at my journal in the earlier pages.... I had migraines almost everyday for 1 wk before I decreased my dosage....adjusted to Metformin before I increased it again.... So now I'm finally at my final dosage of 2,000mg...so far for about 2 weeks already.

I really hope that it brings on my BFP, though I must admit that hubby and I haven't had much sex either...only about once a week lately, since we've been travelling quite a bit. Hmmmm.... dunno if you really need to have a lot of sex to conceive???

But the good thing is that when your hormones are only borderline, that's great news! My LH/FSH ratio was 3:1 before and now when I checked 1 month ago, it was 2:1...so the Metformin is working. I hope that with the higher Metformin dosage, it will go down to 1:1, cos that's the correct ratio for conceiving, apparently.

Hey girlies

I have just found out i have pcos and only starting taking metformin. i havent got my period since march which sucks :p.

Hey jai002 - I hope your AF comes soon! My AF came after 1 month on Metformin. And that at only 1,000mg. So there's hope that Metformin regulates your AF!

Hey Veronica!
Sure thing! I've added you as my friend. How long have you been on Metformin? How's it treating you?

Hey Girlies, I was diagnosed with PCOS in Nov 2007 and was put on Dianette (worse pill ever) to regulate my cycles as I was bleeding constantly for nearly a year, I finally went to see a different Doc who actually listened and sent me to Gynae for an U/S, where he found out i had PCOS, but only effecting one Ovary.. I did ask him then about Metformin, but he said he wouldnt put me on it bcos of the Side Effects, to which i thought, that was his way of fobbing me off.. Well, nearly 3 yrs later, and finally Doc is now referrring me to a FS, and in a few weeks we shall be starting the Metformin, fx this will be the break i have been looking for...

:dust: to all xx

Sarah

Hey Sarah!
Great that you're starting on Metformin! I'm currently on 2,000mg daily. Still no BFP yet, but more regular AFs, at least for the past 3 mths. I'm hoping my AF comes again this month though!!! Its feeling late, but I'm so defo. not PG. Let me know the side effects go.... they weren't pleasant at all when I first started...argh.

Well i hope i am, need to phone GP's Surgery today, to see if FS has spoken to GP. Got FS appt, not till 14th Sept. Will update as soon as i can x

Hey Sarah

How's Metformin treating you??? Oh, its great to have a FS appointment!!! Ask him lots of your questions and write them down...that's some advice I got from some lady on BnB.

still no luck with the Metformin yet, GP's and FS's take their time.

hi can i join u ladies?
ive recently been diagnosed with pcos due to hormone levels inbalance lh 3:1 ratio so now im on metformin been on it about a week now and going upto 1000mg a day then next week to 1500mg a day got fertility specialist appt on 11th aug as my gyno thinks im probably not oving ...or im gearing up to but sometimes doesnt actualy happen...so im going to take isoflavones 115mg a day from cd3 to cd7 to help ov ..fx

hey xshell
Sure you can join us!! I don't use this thread much, but I usually follow people on their journals. Do you have one too? I had the same LH:FSH ratio as you, 3:1. But it became 2:1 after being on 1,000mg Metformin for 1 mth and I haven't checked my hormones since then. I'm waiting for the new results from my FS, whom I went to 2 days ago.

You managed to conceive one baby even with PCOS, I see. Was it a natural BFP?

hi cherrios yes i have one child already shes 12 i had her when i was 18 on bcp and got caught pregnant wasnt even mentioned about pcos ... only since coming off depo provera in sept 2007 and it took 18 months for af to arrive and as i got my bfp in dec i mc in jan so my doc looked into things and since had blood tests which shows pcos!

hope to soon do my ttc journal xx

Oh wow, you got PG on BCP!!! That's like miracle of miracles. You sure you took all your pills? ;) Yeah, I got a feeling it won't take you long to get PG again! I heard all sorts of stories of the Depo pill....a couple of women here on BnB had problems conceiving after that. But then again, women with no issues conceiving usually don't use forums like BnB....so I'm not too sure.
