Hi ladies,

I am in 25th week of pregnancy now and everything was going smoothly so far. This week however I have started experiencing pain near my left inner thigh and some mild back discomfort. This makes turning in bed difficult and slight discomfort while walking. The pain is not extreme as yet. I googled this and found that there is a condition called SPD which has similar symptoms. I was quite depressed and terrified to read about how severe it can be.

I havent spoken to my doc yet. I will speak to her in the evening. Everything else like baby movements and general health is fine. I just hope I don't get SPD, it sounds so awful!

How I wish this pain disappears on its own! I am trying to calm myself down thinking that at least everything else is fine! I want to stay positive and happy no matter what.

anybody else feeling the same?

Don't worry its normal. Caused by your hips separating getting ready for the labour... Iv been waddling for weeks now lol...

I've had bad pains in my hips and back, hurts when I walk or lay down, but not all the time. I told my doctor and she said all they can do it monitor it to make sure it doesn't get any worse. I find having a soak in the bath helps a bit :flower:

I had terrible pelvic pain in my last pregnancy, it was just awful :( I'm already in a lot of pain in this pregnancy and I expect it to get worse than last time

SPD is part of what is now called pregnancy related pelvic pain. SPD only refers to 1 part of your pelvic girdle.

If you are experiencing this type of pain it is worth speaking to your GP/MW as it isn't normal when you are as early on as 25weeks and it is worth asking about physio as it really helps particularly if you get to it early.

Try to keep your knees together as much as possible to prevent the joints in your pelvis from becoming unstable. A bath does help but I find that getting out can sometimes undo all the good of the bath and last time as I got further along I was unable to get out of the bath without help and a lot of pain. A hot water bottle on the affected area is good so long as it isn't on your bump.

Have a look at this website, there is information and advise. https://www.pelvicpartnership.org.uk/

Mine is T.E.R.R.I.B.L.E....! Hip and back pain all tend tp be part-and-parcel, i'm afraid, but if you have ay pre-existing conditions (I do) then it will be worse. SPD is different..lots of women do get pelvic pain and everyone has loosening of that front ligament (of the pelvis) , but for some it becomes very soft and loose and unbearably painful to walk and move. If you do get it, it will just have to be managed, and you havn't done anything to cause it and can't prevent it..to limit pain, make sure you do all the things you know you should be doing! i.e. wearing bags evenly on two shoulders or across you, squatting not bending, sleeping with pillows and knees drawn up..i'm currently trying Pilates, and finding it really really good for the burning hip pain.

I'm 18 weeks and was just about to post something similar to this. Im getting pains in my crutch area and lower abdomen. The pain usually comes after I have been sitting down for a while then have to stand up. It's hard to stand up straight but the really bad pain usually fades to a dull pain. If I walk for long periods I also get it and I wake every time I turn in bed because of it. I'm heading on holiday tomorrow for 2 weeks and wAs going to speak with my doctor on my return. I had never heard of this Spd thing. Now I'm scared.

Numpty, where in NI are you? When I had DD in Lagan Valley (the Ulster is in the same trust) and got a referral for physio in no time. I can't go there this time as I had a section last time and they are now MW only. I'm at Antrim this time and again I had no trouble getting physio. If you are getting pain it is best to speak to someone about it as soon as possible as the relief after they manipulate you back together is unreal. Unfortunately it only lasts so long but sure, its better than nothing :)

Hi there try not to worry to much, I also have spd and had it in my last pregnancy too. It is an awful thing to have and I am/was in a lot of pain but with the support of my midwife/physio and family. I managed fine and it went after I gave birth to my son. This time around im suffering a little bit more but its my 3rd baby and I have other probs 2. I am off work due to the pain and waiting physio but I wont let it spoil my pregnancy and as long as I am careful I manage fine xxx

i wouldn't worry,i was told had spd on monday,i've had terrible pelvis and back pain, cant get up off the couch n roll over in bed etc.ive been giving a waist band and gotta go back docz if doesn't help and disguss physio.i'm only 19.6 weeks n feel ready to drop!!hope yours gets better soon

Very similar! My pain started last week after going to a wedding in wedges!! Thought it was my own fault. Read about pgp pelvic girdle pain and think it's that. Due in with. The midwife in three weeks so going to see if can make it till then.
Read about engaging the pelvic floor muscles as you stand or move and try take the pressure here rather than back. I've also tried an ice pack this evening which has helped a bit.
Websites also said to rest but not to lie down?!
Baby is moving fine and feel fine elsewhere, but don't want to think I will be in pain with every step for another 15 weeks-supposed to be working to christmas!!

Hi there! It is awful, especially when everyone tells you its normal! :) I am 27 weeks with twin boys, and my doc just took me off work until they get here. Some was from health issues, but mostly because I'm having a lot of trouble walking, standing, sitting, and moving in general. Its excruciating getting in and out of a car or rolling over in bed, or trying to stand up from a sitting position. Doc said to get a maternity support band to help aleviate the weight that the pelvis has to hold. She also said if its worse by my next appointment (which it gets worse each day) that she will put me on crutches to help me walk. :( definately not fun, but from what I hear it goes away a few weeks after birth. Good luck! I hope you feel better!

I'm with the ulster so I'll have a word with them when I get back from hols. I now have bad pains in my right side but I've heard this can be quite normal. Thanks!
