Or you could go the easy way and put the b&w on top and erase the parts you like colouredYou select the photo, copy it, turn the photo to black and white then 'paste' the colour copy on top.
Then just go over with the eraser on the colour photo. Anything you erase will end up black and white.
So with that last photo, all that was left of the 'colour' layer was the lamp. The pool etc behind were all erased. It was quite tricky with the purple flower as it was so fiddly but it just looks so effective!
I haven't figured out how to tweak colours using this program yet but Pickle's (the cat's) eyes could use a bit more pop...
