Piercing baby's ears

I had my daughters done at 2 months. They told me I had to wait until she was 2 months. That was in St. Louis, MO. I don't know if it is different in different places or not. I am very happy I did it then. She didn't cry or anything.

Good to know! Did u go to a claires type place in the mall, or somewhere else?

I like it when someone asks this question, makes for a bit of entertainment ;)

Seemingly there's no laws as such, I'd just wait till after the jaggies

Doctors in the U.S. will do anything if you pay them enough. :haha:
Just depends on how much you want to do it....

Don't know why people make a fuss though, no one's asking to scar your child.
They want to do it to there own ? So be it.
I'm full of metal but mine ain't getting it till they can look after it themselves.

Aaah, maybe I'll get the ol' tattoo equipment back out when this one arrives

Okay-Uk and US views on this are completely and totally different-so dont listen to what other women have to say on this-
In the US its VERY common to pierce your baby girls ears. There was already a thread on this a few months back in 2nd tri and wow it was ridiculous how mean people can get when they dont agree on this. Non US/canadian ladies flipped out!
Here in the US your baby has to have had one tetanus shot before you can pierce her ears. That happens at 2 months old. So from 2 months old and on you can get them pierced. I pierced my oldest at 4 months, and my youngest at 11 months. Both did really well.

Apparently it's a bigger deal outside the US. it's very common to do it newborns here, I just couldn't remember exact age..6 weeks, 8 weeks...

A lot of pediatricians will do it in fact.

Don't worry about negative comments, I think it's way more traumatising to have it done at 6 years old or whenever they can decide for themselves. I had mine done then and screamed for ages in fear and then it took hours to persuade me to sit still for the other one to be done, and I had asked for them pierced! Babies at least won't remember and can be easily comforted.

In the UK it's often considered kind of 'common' to have a baby's ears pierced. I think it looks kinda cute actually but wouldn't do it because of the stigma around it.

just found a link https://www.claires.com/store/earpiercing/earPiercing.jsp and changed to the usa so hopefully will help you xxx

its common in the uk to have babys ears piercing too.....

It was at the Piercing Pagoda kiosk in the mall.

BTW I went to Claires at the mall-just watch the girl doing it. They are usually teenagers, make sure they wear gloves, clean the area well etc. I watched close, and they did great. And scarring?? Sorry thats really not going to happen if you know how to take care of her piercings. I got mine pierced really young-and I'm do glad my Mom had them done for me young!! What girl doesnt like pierced ears?

its something i have thought about but she's not here yet so still dont no. i was 3 months old when my mam got mine done. she said it was better as i didnt mess around with them. and i grew with them so never messed with them as i got older. xx

Perfect! The last few comments were very helpful, thank you!

pic of me slightly older here but i had earrings in here one of the give aways i was a girl :haha:

You could sing to your piercings while you clean them everyday and read them stories every night.
But no matter where/how it's done, it will leave a scar.
Albeit tiny, it's still a scar, break the tissue, leave a mark.

Lmao ^^^ this thread is insane

I'm sure she will resent me for a freckle sized scar & at the same time be the 1st little girl to hate earrings... I'm gonna be such a bad mom!

Yup, well I got a second set of piercings when I was a teen and took them out a few years later, and nope, no VISIBLE scarring or hole to be seen. Really not a big deal. Fine, you dont have to agree with babies getting piercings, but keep it to yourself.

well Miss Fish i for one will be looking out for ur labour story then when my labour storys due.... ur bubba will be getting ears peirced! cant wait to see piccys and hear the updates!

These threads only get insane, when insane people comment on them!! People always have to put their 2 cents in, even when not asked. They must think they are better Mom's for not piercing a baby's ears!! Lol, there is so much more to be worried about!

I will def post pics with her bling! :)

Haha agreed, Ashley.. I'm bored but not THAT bored...

Wow, well you learn something new every day, I didn't know this was commonplace in the US. Personally it seems a strange thing to do but ur the mum!

I don't wear earrings any more and have no scar at all, can't even see the hole on them without feeling for it and pushing the skin. My nose and stomach piercings are still really obvious a good 5 years on though and I don't wear them either.

Yeah didn't realise it was the done thing in the states you learn something new everyday!!
