Pillows for flathead

Can i just reassure you that flat head in most cases rectifies itself. My dd had it and now its not there. She is 4

Oh yes, I know that. It's more him lying on the one side consistently that I'm worried about. He seems to strain his neck and he doesn't even try to turn the opposite side even if I call to him or jiggle his favourite toys.

We've just had him on his mat again and my husband tried to turn his head, he can do it, he just moves it straight back the other way. When he sits up on my knee he looks to the one side quite a lot too. Although he does look straight at you when propped up on your knees, he barely ever looks to the other side.

I'm definitely going to take him to my GP if the HV dismisses it again.

Just a quick additional point as well. Ask the Gp to check his hearing and sight, that can sometimes cause preferential turning of head always to one side. Good luck with it! I'm sure all will work out perfectly :)

Ellie has torticollus which is getting better but we are waiting on a date for her surgery appointment to nip the tendon in her neck she is also in spica cast and has been since end of May and is in it til 4th Nov, anyway Ellie has plagiocephaly like flat head and we have been told that it will correct itself when she starts moving and can get off her back, so im not going to intervene til then and then see what happens I think if she is comfy then let her be I wouldnt want someone coming in and moving me when im sleeping lol

We do move her head from to top bottom of cot every other week and that seens to help her turn her head on her own xx

just read this this is all the signs of torticollus maybe a wee appointment to see the DR just to ask if it is or not then you will be referred to physio and see a huge diff xx

Thank you Claire_24! I really appreciate people replying and giving advice. I've been thinking about it all day and I think I'll ring my GP tomorrow and get them to have a look.

yeah then you know if you need to so some physio and sometimes they say that its best to not interfere with the way the neck wants to go when a baby has torticollus until they have had physio to loosen the neck muscles a little xx

Hi, I just wanted to give you a little update as my HV has just left.

She has told me to see my GP and get him referred to Peadiatric physiotherapy as she thinks it may be Torticollis. I'm just about the phone them now to get an appointment.

She has said that the pillow is a good idea for his flat spot so I'm going to buy one ASAP.

Thank you all for you advice and support, I really appreciate it xxx

Hey Mooshie!

I'm glad she listened to you and took you seriously this time. I would just ask the GP to refer you to the hospital. You want a paediatrician to see your LO and diagnose for sure what the problem is before you start treatment like physio!

I'll still pop back here on Thursday after our check-up and let you know what was said.

xXx

I had thought of that actually, I'll just ask my GP to refer us to paeds and take it from there.

I feel sad that he has to do this, but at least something is being done about it.

Thanks again Kerrie! xxx
