I went out for dinner tonight, and ordered Steak and Onion pie with vegetables.
The outside of the meat was brown, but on the inside it was pink. I didn't realise this until someone pointed it out to me, by that time I'd eaten a lot of it.

The pie was piping hot, and golden brown, and I assumed it was cooked.

I know you can have steak with a slightly pink middle, but I don't think it's safe when pregnant.

Yes mam it's safe it's beef it only needs to be heated up to a low temp.. That's y u can eat it rare!!!!!
That's how I eat mine and I'm okay...

When your pregnant beef has to be cooked through.

You cannot eat rare or pink steak whilst pregnant.

Hi there,

I am sure you will be just fine :)

I have been eating my steak medium rare still and ive had it on probably 3/4 occasions now. Always the steak is piping hot.

I cant bring myself to eat steak that isnt pink & I have even been craving steak.

Guidelines say that you are supposed to avoid having steak pink but I think if you ate it and you are fine now, you'll be ok.

Im ok, been a tad naughty but I have been with a lot of food really.

In a pie the meat is slow cooked so can stay very tender & sometimes be pink, even when it's cooked through. It's likely that the meat was cooked for at least 40 minutes, which is plenty. I think you're be fine, I've had steak pie & it was fine too. Same applies to stews & casseroles.
Eating steak which is cooked on a grill or a pan means the meat is cooked quickly at a high temperature, which often leaves it pink & bloody in the middle. This sort of pink steak isn't okay to eat in pregnancy because the way it's cooked means that some bacteria can remain (safe for us, not always for bubs).
Don't worry though, you haven't eaten anything dangerous.

I really think if it lightly pink an hot as hell ur fine.. All I been craving is steak I mean It hasn't hurt me r my baby I'm 18 weeks to each there own I guess

Hi. I ate it around 3hrs ago and I'm feeling awful. I don't know if this is just my normal morning sickness or worse.

Don't worry about it. Sure you're supposed to have it well done during pregnancy but the odds of it being bad are slim. Listeria is the only really scary thing. Other food poisoning is nasty but not a threat to baby as long as you keep well hydrated. Listeria is rare and takes a long time to come on (as much as 3 months).

In my last two pregnancies I was very laid back about my diet and ate rare steaks. We were fine. Strangly it's only this time around that I freak out about everything.

:hugs:

I have eaten pink steak runny eggs etc.... Listeria is very rare anyway

That link given above explains exactly why we can't eat lots of foods - because we're at risk of food poisoning. Pregnant or not aren't we always at risk of food poisoning and yet take risks? I'm not going to go ahead and eat pink meat every day but a steak here and there I feel isn't the end of the world I've had steak on two occasions so far and have been fine so don't beat yourself up just don't do it often :)
