Hi Ladies,

So... my husband just called to tell me that a friend of his was recently in contact with a kid that has pinworms. I did not have direct contact with this person, but my husband did. So, now we're paranoid thinking that pinworms may have spread to my husband and possibly to me. Not only am I completely disgusted by this, I'm freaking out because everything I have read so far says I can't take anything to get rid of them while I'm pregnant.

Has anyone dealt with something like this? I'm hoping that I don't get it, but I will be devastated if I do!!

Hi
You can't take any medication to get rid of pin worms you just have to practice good hygiene and they will work their way out of your body in a few weeks I think. any other members of your household can take medication to minimise you being reinfected!
HTH

Ohhh god pinworms.. the nightmare of my childhood years  I was a nail biter and would regularly suffer from these monsters - bleh!

If you find you have been infected, you can't take anything during pregnancy(that I know of, but the doctors might have something), you just have to wash your bits every morning (as they lay their eggs at night), change the bedsheets and disinfect all high traffic areas(door handles/toilet handles etc), if you break the cycle by practicing good hygiene, then they will eventually go on their own :hugs:

there are some over the counter medicines that you can take while pregnant to get rid of pinworms, can get it at walgreens or rite aid,
https://health.getridofthings.com/get-rid-of-pinworms.htm

the over the counter meds are class C for pregnancy which mean take if outcome outweigh the risks. check with your heath care provider first cause you might not even have them. i used to get them as a kid, i lived in the dessert and pinworms live in sand, i know it sounds gross but how my mom used to check as a kid of we had them was take a qtip and put it up the butt twirl and pull it out if you have pinworms you will get a few on the qtip

my daughter caught it from a playgroup whilst i was pregnant with my son.
doctor looked through daughters poo and found wriggly worms, i saw them in her nappy first though!
i was lucky as she was still in nappies and unable to scratch her bum (which is how they breed or become contageous) ok so i shall help you out as best i can...

the mother or Queen, come out as soon as you fall into a deep sleep, she will lay her eggs on your pants and anus.
the eggs are microscopic!!! when you poo make sure you put the lid down when you flush as this can help stop the spreading ALOT.
wash your hands and DUST! when the eggs fall off of clothing they can be hidden in bedlinen and DUST!
THEY ONLY HAVE A LIFE CYCLE OF 6 WEEKS! so if you DONT put the eggs back into your system you will get rid of them without the use of meds.
you can't pass them onto your baby as the baby is protected in the womb.
i was told to put vaseline on your bum hole before bedtime to help stop the spreading of the eggs.

hope this helps hun xxxx pm me if you need to ask anything xxxx i never caught them when i followed these guidelines xxxx

As awkward as it is, I am kind of worried about the same thing. My husband used to work in a factory that was not kept up to code and I believe tha someone passed it along to him and then to me.
I was doing some research and here is what i have found:

I was looking up the same thing, for myself and found that Pyrantel or Pamoate is specifically for pregnant women. Google treatments for pinworms and it should be on page one results. It's some kind of doctor's page. :flower: Your doctor might have more to say about it than that. But I was reading about how to prevent it from coming back when it is gone: Clean your bedsheets once a week or two weeks, make sure you don't wear undergarments or bottoms more than one day, keep face and nails clean and trim and avoid biting them because it spreads that way too. As weird and silly as it is, I was reading about dusting your ceilings and walls for cobwebs. I don't know why they would show up in those places, but maybe they're drawn there...?

Anyway, I hope this helps. :) It is an over the counter medicine but you might want to get a doctor's note or prescription just in case. :flower:
