Pizza

I second that, I want one now. I eat them all the time either frozen or from Pizza Hut. Totally fine.

I eat pizza all the time. I also eat cold lunch meat too if that means anything. I enjoy my pizza with sausage on it. Little one is perfectly fine and very active. I wouldn't worry.

I just wanted to mention that eating deli meats will most likely not harm your baby. Its only in the case where it happens to be contaminated with listeria that it can cause devastating effects such as miscarriage at any stage of pregnancy. This is why I avoid it.
I'm not trying to tell anyone what to do when it comes to eating during pregnancy but instead for anyone reading this thread and reading that baby is fine after eating deli meats or anything they tell you not to eat is not get the wrong message.
While its a very very small risk, its still a risk...

O and since this thread is about pizza.. I think any topping is fine as its all heated until steaming hot so any bacteria that could have been present would have been killed. So enjoy any type of pizza and don't worry!!

It can't be a risk though if no pregnant women in my area have ever been told to avoid deli meats. Well there's a risk with pretty much everything you do, it can't be more than a risk of crossing the road! I guesse different areas are told different things, always amazes me as we are all the same really. Pregnant and want the best possible outcome! Not judging anyone anyway, everyone should do what they feel is right In pregnancy.

Well I over did it on the Pizza Hut yesterday just hope that baby enjoyed it as much as I did :)

Thanks everyone! We have a pizza stone at home and make our own, it's really good. It cooks at a very high temperature.

I prefer my pizza with fresh basil, fresh garlic, ricotta. Sometimes I also add onions, fresh mushrooms, and green olives. Green olives and ricotta just go so well together on pizza.

So much this!^^^

I don't buy into the don't eat this and don't eat that. But what I choose to do *is* in moderation. I eat what I want. Blue cheese, rare steak, cold cuts if I want them (I usually don't), fish-including a small amount of sushi. If I have a bad headache, I'll have a cup of coffee.

200 years ago and further people didn't avoid rare meat, soft cheeses, caffeine, or fish while pregnant, why should we now? Many of our moms ate what they wanted, and many of us turned out just fine. That's my logic I use to rationalize my decision.

Many may choose to be cautious; that's great if you can pull it off, kudos to you! Some of you here may even been one of the unfortunate statistics or know someone who was, I'm not making light of that in any way. I enjoy food and I really don't see the risks they claim as as large as they portend to be in the grand scheme of things. Not everyone agrees with me, and they usually don't, but I've never been one to follow the rules just because. I question everything and make my own informed decisions. That's just me.

why isnt pizza classed as healthy? I know is calorific but it has cheese (protein, calcium) tomatoe's, meats, vegies such as peppers mushrooms, onions, sounds pretty nutritious to me or am i just being thick?? I dont want to be gaining too much weight so i wont be eating pizza often unless ill be making my own at home with wholemeal flour and loads of nutritious topping!

I think the biggest concern are the processed and/or the uncooked meats; pepperoni, sausage, salami, hamburger, bacon, and the like. Other than that, pizza is pretty good for you.

My ob told me that they say you should avoid cold deli meats because of the risk of listeria, but that it is not really a risk in most developed countries. Also she ate cold deli meat all through her pregnancy (her twins just turned one) . That's enough evidence for me.

Where are you located? x

My doctor recommended I heat up deli meats to steaming hot before eating them. The chance of it being contaminated with listeria is pretty low though. The doctor said he's never had a pregnant woman get sick with listeria in his over 10 years of practice.

The meat on pizza should not be a problem because it's been heated and cooked. I worked at Little Caesars and our ovens were always extremely hot. Most pizza ovens are heated to at least 500 degrees.

I never liked cold deli meat and pepperoni pizza anyway.:haha: My favorite pizza is olives and mushrooms.

Yesterday we had a pizza lunch at work and I had:

Ham & Pineapple - 1 slice
Meat Feast - beef, ham, salami, pepperoni - 3 slices!
Veggie - 1 slice

Have what you want !!

I make pizza once a week and I always use sausage. Mmm!

Whats not healthy about pizza?
It covers all your essentials, fibre (base) dairy, veg, meats, fruit if you have pineapple :)

I do love a good chicken and bacon with bbq sauce on it

oh i see, but surley 10-15 mins in the oven will cook the meat through?? most guidlines are 220c for pizza. Ive never had a pizza where the meat wasnt piping hot when i pull it out of the oven. Also what is wrong with processed meats? I have never been told about this? I have hambo sambo's all the time  My midwife hasnt said anything about this - only to avoid red meat unless its cooked well done.

it's on the NHS website, of course up to you to follow this advice or not everyone reads the list and decides what advice they will follow and what not but it's on there. it does not warn against eating them but does say some choose to ...

"Cold cured meats

Cold cured meats include salami, parma ham, chorizo and pepperoni. Some countries advise pregnant women to avoid eating cold cured meats or smoked fish as there is a small risk of these foods harbouring listeria, or the toxoplasma parasite that causes toxoplasmosis. Currently in the UK we don't advise pregnant women to avoid these products. However, if you are at all concerned, you might choose to avoid cured meats and smoked fish while you are pregnant.
The Food Standards Agency is reviewing its toxoplasmosis and listeria advice to vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, and we'll post the reviewed advice on this page as soon as it's available."

I've given up any pizza I don't make myself for a completely other reason than the meat. For one I'm a vegitarian so the meat isn't an issue for me, but my concern is the BPA found in the linnings of cans which the sauce and toppings come from.

I've also given up any canned food items. BPA is not healthy for babieis, hence the BPA free bottles everywhere, so I don't want to preexpose my baby to BPA before he's even born.
