I'm 21 weeks pregnant and have been diagnosed with total placenta previa. My doctor recommended for me to cancel my cruise trip. We just contacted the cruise line and are waiting on a response. My boyfriend is still eager to go and will replace me with a friend on the trip. This trip was meant to be for me as a late birthday gift and I decided to take it now because his birthday is on Sunday. I'm really bumped out and need some advice. I know that my baby's well being is more important but I can't help to feel this way.

Did your doctor clarify why exactly you should cancel? I have a partial placenta previa and wasn't given any health warnings as such, just told what sort of things to look out for. Are you going to be on bed rest or signed off work otherwise?

I have total previa which is my entire placenta on top of the cervix. He said its a time bomb and is eager to give me bed rest. I work at an office so my job isnt too rough but he wants me home in bed. I'm only 21 weeks and am nervous about having a premature labor :(

I talked to my dr about this too, as I had been diagnosed with full previa since 10 weeks... when was your last ultrasound?? I went today 20 weeks because I am going out of town and found out that it has just barely moved up and out of the way, and i guess 90% of the time they move. Maybe ask your dr to re-scan you... My doc gave me all the same warnings, however, he didn't seemed concerned about preterm labor until i wouldve been 32 weeks...so this early I would assume you would be ok. Hope it moves!! *fingers Crossed*

Ah honey, I know how you feel. It's sad really. But in my opinion, baby's life isn't worth the risk. I had incomplete placenta previa's during my first 2 pregnancies. With my first one, I was still working, and my dr asked me to come to an agreement with them, because baby's life is at risk every day I climbed into the car (I've had bleeding episodes and a corner of the placenta kept pulling away). My boss was fantastic and I ended up working from home 3 days a week. My mom turned 61 in this time, and she lived 5 hour's drive away from me, and all my siblings went to visit her. She was ill and we knew it may be the last birthday we could be with her. It broke my heart into a thousand pieces not to be able to go, but I couldn't risk baby's life. 6 Months later my mom passed away. I was able to see her 3 times after baby was born, which I'm grateful for. I can honestly today say that not taking any risks, was totally worth it. My baby was born healthy and fine and is the most wonderful 11-year old boy a parent could ask for.

Good luck!!

I think you've to cancel your cruise, since your plancenta is right on the opening of your cervix. So you will easily bleed.

My husband's coworker's wife had total previa. The wife and I only 1 week difference.
She was bleeding a lot, so since around 6th month of her pregnancy she had to stay at the hospital and bed rest. The doctor wanted her bed rest until her due date.
But, when she entered 7th month/28th week, she had an emergency C-section because the baby's heartbeat was really weak.
He was delivered successfully. There're some complications, but baby is currently okay, still at the hospital, probably for another month.
