OH and I are considering booking a fun beach trip in January. I can't decide if it's insane or not. We're doing injectables right now, and if it worked we'd be ~five months along, so that's the max. We'll probably do injectables for a couple of months before starting iui.

The longest leg of the trip would be about a four-hour flight.

My doctor has assured me that most pregnancies are fine to travel through the second trimester. (Of course, who knows if I'll have a high-risk pregnancy.) I've heard other docs say that second trimester is good and first trimester is "probably okay." Yet others I've heard say no travel past 14 weeks.

If something went wrong, I don't know if I could forgive myself.

If I'm still not pregnant by then I would desperately want the vacation.

So I don't know what to do. I'm sure others here have dealt or are dealing with this. So how do you decide? What times are best? Any other thoughts? I'm sure everyone here understands the dilemma-putting life on hold versus risking a pregnancy. Very hard decisions!!

I'd book it! I had to put ttc on hold for a cruise we were booked to work on because i couldn't sail after 26 weeks (policies differ but this one was strict no sail after 26wks)... it got cancelled literally 2 weeks before we were back TTC!!!! I will not put anything on hold any more - Get it booked

I've put loads of stuff on hold and regretted it over the past 2 years. I'd say go but book through an agency or get insurance to maybe get some money back if you need to cancel. 5 months should be ok and if you can't go becuase you were pregnant chances are you'd not be too dissapointed.

Thanks, ladies. :friends:

So, after having been LTTTC, when in a pregnancy would you feel comfortable flying?

I would definately go! Just get travel insurance and in the case of a high risk pregnancy or other related issues you know that you can pull out or are cared for while away.
I also planned a trip away, I think you need to do things like that to keep you sane during this hard journey.
It will be great!

GO! You cant not plan because you "may" get pregnant. Don't get me wrong obviously we hope that it happens, but we are all LTTTC ladies and if we keep pushing life away just incase we will all be living alone in our basements in a few years clutching our BBT thermometer trying to figure out if we are ovulating or not.

My friend (who got prenant the first MONTH they were trying) flew right around the 5 month mark and had a wonderful time, she wasn't to large that her back hurt the whole time and felt uncomfortable. She is glad she got the vacation in before baby was delivered as they know it will be after baby is over 1 year old or more before they get to go again.

If it makes you feel better we are planning a March vacation for down south right now. Whole familywill be going so fx

Hi All

Go for it, I have tired and have put things off over the last year especially, we have been trying for 2 years. i have put off running events, weekends away and the potentially flying senario. I think having holidays to look forward to will help you and your partner. I am in the process of booking holiday for end of sept and another on for Dec.

We visited the FS on monday and they are happy with my husbands results as they have improved and now i will have a scan/dye thing to check if my tubes are all open, they have done all other blood tests and pleased with those. If tubes are fine i will be put on clomid for 6 mths just to make sure every month we have the best chance, so now I am going to live life to the full

Good luck

I agree GO!!!! Get some good insurance just in case. I have also put things off due to TTC, it's not good really and I always regret it. We are allowed a normal life too xxx

Thanks for the responses ladies! Here's another fear: I'm worried that if I cancel the trip because of a high risk pregnancy that the trip insurance won't pay out if I'm been seeking i/f treatment. I've had friends be denied their trip insurance for problems like that.

Thoughts?

I definitely agree that LTTTC should not stand in the way of living life! :hugs:

I've had similar thoughts... But, I'm leaving on a vacation tomorrow that I planned in February. Still not expecting, btw. I booked the hotel first & flights in late march. I picked a hotel I could cancel & waited on the flight until I knew I'd be less than 5 mos pregnant, at maximum. I ended up paying a few extra dollars for the flight, but it was worth the peace of mind.

I love to travel and wanted to enjoy summer vacation with my family. I'm glad I made the decision.
