Hi Ladies, I know it is still early doors but I have always thought I would BF and my DH agree's with this - I think I would like to BF and Express as I will be going back to work after 13 weeks of ML so need to ensure my LO still gets the breast milk even though I am not there for as long as it lasts

My question is I have my left nipple pierced  so I am confused as to what I do about this  I do not want to remove it permanently as I like it and want to keep it but I do not know how logistically it would work
DH and I have discussed and we figured you just remove it when feeding and then pop it back in

Anyone also breastfeed and have a nipple piercing? Advice would be great

Thank you :flower:

I do not have one, but other moms in our breastfeeding support group have them. They kept theirs out as much as possible the first 6-8 weeks just to prevent unnecessary irritation to their nipples while they were still going through the initial pain/soreness. Now they just pop the rings out when they feed/pump and then pop them right back in. Don't know if this is normal or not, but just so that you aren't freaked out, a couple of the women in the group swear that milk comes out of their piercings. :p

Thank you for the response :flower:

It shouldn't affect feeding at all hun.

You might find it easier to have it out especially at night for the first few weeks at least. MAybe pop it in for a few hours in the day but you'll find it fiddley with a baby feeding every 2-3 hours day and night in the early days. :)

I removed mine when pregnant because I didn't want to deal with the faff of having to remove it to feed my lo. I did find that milk leaked out of the holes to begin with, even after over 8 months of allowing it to close up! However, my right side (which had the piercing) is my sons favourite, maybe because he doesn't have to work as hard to get the milk :haha:

Thank you for confirming that! I've thought they were having a go at me for the longest!

I always thought it would come out of the 2 extra holes just made sense
