Hi ladies... I need some advice from you.. I found out i was pregnant at the end of july but i has a miscarriage middle of august, which broke my heart as i was ttc for 4 years!
I was taking metformin and clomid which resulted in my pregnancy but when i went to gp she advised me to stop metformin straight away. Within a week of stopping i miscarried at 4 weeks.

Ive read online of women who have continued to take metformin throughout their pregnancy as it lowers chance of miscarriage and they have went on to have healthy babies.

I spoke to my infertilty specialist about this yesterday and he told me to stop using metformin as soon as i discover i am pregnant again! But i am unsure of his advice as ive been taking clomid for 6 cycles and he wants me to continue for another 6 months which goes against all other advice ive heard about clomid as you shouldnt be on it longer than 6 cycles as it can over stimulate the ovaries.

Can anyone help me as im afraid of falling pregnant again and going through another miscarriage. Has any of you ladies continued on with your metfomin in pregnancy

My RE didn't let us take Clomid for more than 5 cycles, as you're right it can damage the ovaries. I'd be very cautious.
I just started taking Metformin and the Dr said when we conceive, to take it right through 12 weeks of pregnancy...

Thanks for the comment :) i think i might continue to take it for the first trimester next time round. I think i may ask for a second opinion with anoth specialist as im not too happy with the one i see at the min

to the best of my knowledge many women who are put on Metformin are told to continue it to at least 12 weeks gestation. I wouldn't say the Metformin caused a m/c, but i also wouldn't say NOT taking it caused a m/c. :)

I was on metformin with my pregnancy for my first trimester. I had one doctor tell me to stop when I found out I was pregnant and one that said continue it. After much research in my own I opted to continue it and had a healthy baby girl.
Now back on metformin and TCC #2.
