positive opk whilst on af?

can someone please help me and my friend understand how ovulation tests work please.
we are so confused by them.. took one whilst on af and positive .. how does this even work lol
i think we are just thick lol

By positive do you mean line was as dark as the control line? Or was it just lines? If it's just lines thats normal. That's not a positive and I always get lines on opk's around AF time. They will darken as you approach ovulation. You want them to as dark or darker than the control line to be positive.
