so last summer I had my first uti, I went to my des who tested urine and said there was no infection so figured I was just fluey with really bad aches. 3 days later I was in severe pain fever over 40 degrees and rushed to a&e and hospitalised for a week as it spread to my kidneys. I know being pregnant we are more prone to these and it can affect baby, sending you into Orem labour or low birth weights. Nhs website says if u can't see your gp right away go to a&e. Thoughts please?! Xx

I agree with going to A&E. Last pregnancy I had a severe UTI which thankfully didn't end up as bad as yours did but it turned REAL nasty within hours of first realizing I was starting to sting a little. This pregnancy I also had another UTI which started going the same way and I responded to medication within 24hrs luckily but I already planned I would go to A&E if I couldn't get a Dr appointment that day. Good luck, hope you are lucky and dont get one this time around

Thank you for commenting. It's my sons 5th birthday party today so going to try get fru that and if I'm still feeling the same visit a&e. Fingers crossed it's nothing x

I would give the out of hours dr a ring to see if you can get a prescription without spending hours sitting in a&e and missing yourbsins birthday.

It does sound urgent as you have a history of it escalating quickly but doesn't sound like an emergency as such.

Alternatively could you call your community midwife or if you've had your booking appointment call the maternity hospital for advice.

I've had them before though kit when pregnant they are nasty! Keep drinking water

I'd go to a walk in centre before A&E. It's something they can sort there and not a life threatening emergency right now.

I agree with a walk in. I had a uti with ds2 and I know how awful I felt, it took me over a week to shake off and I kept getting a temperature and feeling so lethargic. I went to the walk in and the prescribed anti bs and lots of bed rest. All fun and games when you're in the middle of moving house! Poor oh had to do it all by himself!

As im sure you realise - A&E is an abreviation of accident and emergency. A UTI isn't either of these things. There are many other services available to use before resorting to visiting A&E. I appreciate a UTI can develop into something acute and severe in which case you may need to go to hospital but if you feel symptoms coming on now I would reccomend contacting your out of hours doctor/GP to get antibiotics. Keep drinking loads of water to flush the infection and take paracetamol to lower your temp if you have one. These steps should result in you not needing to make an unnecessary trip to A&E.
Sorry I don't mean to sound blunt but I'm a nurse and A&E is so stretched and i don't agree with it being used unless it's essential, I hope you feel better soon x

Yes it agree with above out of hours is more appropriate than a &e. Hope it clears up soon

Thank you all. I'm not easily offended don't worry and advice wether good or bad is great in my opinion! I seem to be feeling better today and haven't had as many symptoms. Not using the toilet as much, have just about gotten through my sons birthday although my mum has taken him off my hands for a couple hours this evening to visit family. I also would deffo not want to waste a&e time and would only even go if in fact I felt I was dying ( which is why I ended up there last time and was kept in for a week) again I'm going to see how I feel over night as could just be flu symptoms and if I'm still feeling rubbish will book in my drs Monday morning.

Where I am I can go directly to my labor and delivery ward at my hospital as of 18 weeks and over. So no need to go through the hospital ER. It's quick too. However u can always just go to a walk in and do a rapid strip test there and get the usual meds. Not an emergency yet anyway just don't wait xx
