I will be having a home birth, so won't be able to gank any post birth supplies from the hospital, lol.

Do I NEED the Obstetrical Pads for after birth flow, or are overnight maxi pads fine?

The big ones from the hospital were more comfortable for me, but I also had stitches, if that matters...it really just depends...I had heavy bleeding for the first few days...then it was mostly light until 4.5-5.5 weeks when I had heavy bleeding again. The hospital only provided me with enough for 1 or 2 days after I got home, then I just used regular pads. They were uncomfortable and annoying (what pads aren't?!) but oh well.

It will entirely depend on how much or little you bleed. I would get one pack of maternity ones to be safe though. Or see if you can get some of those puppy pad things to lay under you just in case.

For me, I absolutely needed the maternity pads for about the first week or so and I didn't have especially heavy bleeding or a bad tear. They were just more comfortable and the padding helped when sitting (you'll probably be a little sore). I switched to regular maxi pads (extra long with wings) after that first week.

I had a home birth as well so stocking up was important. I had maybe 1 pack of 20 pads, but definitely needed another 2 packs before I switched to the regular pads. Also, I'm sure you already know it, but get twice as many floor coverings (tarp or shower curtains) and bed pads as you think you might need. I moved around a lot more than I realised I would during my birth and ended up giving birth in my bedroom (even though all our supplies had been set up in the lounge). The carpet took a bit of a hit as a result. It's fine now but I definitely wasn't as prepared as I should have been!

I just used regular super absorbent pads both times.

Overnight pads should work just fine. :) I had a midwife birth so like you, I didn't get free supplies from the hospital. I was in the overnight pads for a few days and then the heavy flow/regular pads until the bleeding stopped.

Overnight super absorbancy long ones should do the trick, but the pads w ice in them from hospital were awesometoo for pain!
