Pregnant and writing dissertation

I know what you mean Abigail. So easy to get distracted thinking about baby stuff even though you know it makes sense to start workin on it now

Haha @ersurgeon girl. Don't drink coffee but may have to get some caffeinated tea and chocolate in for when I need a bit of an boost! 32 pages in 2 days is really impressive :)

Right here! MS thesis due in September, baby due in October. Luckily my thesis is only a journal article, so it's not going to be a ton of writing, but my mindset since finals has been "now that I've taken all required lecture classes/labs, I'm going to give myself a some time off..."

That time would most likely go on forever, but I enrolled myself in 10 research units for the summer, so I'm headed back to the grind soon :x With research enrollment comes the weekly advisor meetings, summer article deadlines, and the inevitable research grade in August... Impossible to avoid writing! I honestly think enrollment is good way to keep oneself motivated. If you're totally done with units, though, this option may not exist :(

Hey there,

I'm not writing a dissertation, but I am currently doing an independent study as part of my degree, in preparation for a thesis (that's the plan anyway), and I worked full-time and studied full-time up until the end of April, so I think I can understand where you're coming from. It's so hard to get focused and motivated! The fatigue is brutal, if I lay down with a book it's only seconds before I'm fighting sleep. And somehow I have to produce a 60-page research paper by the end of the summer, while still working full-time, so 2.5 months seems like it should be enough time, but I'm still working on the outline! AAAAHHH! And it's not going to get any easier. And why the hell is my brain so fuzzy?!

Hang in there hunny, I hope you have a good supervisor? Do you have any good tricks for staying awake or getting motivated?

WE CAN DO THIS GIRLS, LETS SHOW OUR BABIES THAT YOU CAN GET DONE WHATEVER YOU PUT YOUR MIND TO![/QUOTE]

I think I got the quote thing right this time, so again, YES! And let's show all the doubters that women are strong and smart, we KICK ASS!

Have only just found out who my supervisor is Doodlebop. First meeting with him on Tuesday. Am hoping he'll be encouraging. My only tip for staying awake is to try and find your most productive time to work (for me I generally get more done in the morning and start to flag by about 3.30). As for motivation - sadly not!! Good luck with getting your independent study sorted!

Thanks for the advice wantsalittle1. No option for enrolment any more sadly as it's just my dissertation left now. Good luck with your thesis :)

These are my working times too, if I don't start by 10 I don't get enough done...I used to study 8.30-6.00 no worried before being prego, now it's lucky to be 10-3.30 :dohh:

Final semester exam on Monday, BRING IT ON I need a break (and then it's school hols, woohoo! :happydance: I'm a teacher so I get a break!)

I'm doing mine right now too. I had handed in a form at uni to defer my exams and research project for a year (until next May) as I am really struggling with tiredness but they have randomly emailed me a few days ago saying I am now doing them in August (didn't think this was an option) so now panicking majorly as it has not left me enough time to finish dissertation and revise properly without late nights and major stress :(

Hi gals!

Hope it's all going well for you guys!

I'm studying for my last semester exam tonight- and then by 8pm I'll be FREEEEE for a whole 6 weeks!! I can't wait!! At this point, I just want to pass, I'm so, so fed up with Uni. I still have another 18 months ahead but next semester will only be 2 subjects, and then 1 per semester after bubs is born. Yee-hah! I feel I've worked my butt off this first half year and need a rest!

Thanks. I was in first tri when it was started... And of course I picked the topic before I found out I was pregnant...

The genocides between the Serbs and Croats and the Hutu and Tutsi and what can be done to help prevent genocides worldwide :dohh:

Talk about a hormonal tear-fest!

Haha! That is a pleasant topic to write about when you are growing a new life inside you :)
