So I finally had my prescription filled for prenatal vitamins. I had received a few boxes from the Dr as samples so didn't need to get the prescription before now.

Talk about Sticker Shock. I have insurance, and still, a 30 day supply of the vitamins was $50!!!!!! That's over a dollar a day - and closer to $1.70 per DAY for a vitamin?! It's Called VITAFOL - I just don't know if it's worth it.

I am pretty sure I could get the same ingredients in 2 separate vitamins at a fraction of the cost. This is just CRAZY!

Hrmm. My doctor's office told me the samples they have aren't any better than the over-the-counter kind. They did say that some women respond better to the prescription kind in terms of MS. I got a combo pack (prenatal multi, dha) buy one get one free at CVS. https://www.cvs.com/shop/product-de...tivitamin-2-Step-Program-Tablets?skuId=801760

Thanks for this - In hind sight I wish I would have refused the script - I was kind of in shock and I am sure they won't take it back. It's just crazy expensive! 2 months at 100 bucks vs the 2 months on this one you just mentioned for $24

I just take folic acid, it is really the most important part of the vitamin, especially in the first trimester, so long as you have a balanced diet. It is much more reasonable financially.

Hi- I would never pay that. I just went to the vitamin section of wal mart and picked up "Spring Valley" prenatal vitamins when we were TTC. They were $4 and a ton of them in the bottle. Has all you need and the reviews online are great. It seems it doesn't provoke morning sickness in most people who take it. Doctor said it is fine too.

Try calling around to different pharmacies and find out the cost as it can vary. Mine is $4 per month at Walmart. Giant Eagle offers free prenatal vitamin prescriptions if you have one of those near you, don't know if it includes that specific one though.

That's what I pay for mine. If your buying a standard synthetic vitamin they are dirt cheap...but not absorbed well in the body. I take 2 different brands New Chapter and SISU. They are the natural form of the vitamin. So it's folate vs folic acid. These are better recognized and better absorbed by the body. I feel better...my nails look better. I don't need to know...my body shows me they work. So personally I think they're very much worth it. Makes me feel like I'm doing "good" to my body! Hahahahaha.

I take the prenatal gummy vitamins with an iron supplement (they don't contain iron). It's $30 for THREE MONTHS!

I take "Finest Nutrition" brand prenatals from Walgreens - there is 120 pills per bottle, and I got them buy one get one 1/2 off - and it was only $14.00 a bottle regular price.

I love the gummy ones but I'm anemic so I need the iron :( I used to buy my gummy ones online at Amazon - I've been in prenatals for years for the iron, but I stopped taking them after a couple months when I realized they had no iron LOL

that expensive mine were $10 and some change at the pharmacy

Wow that's really expensive mine were only $11 at whole foods. The ingredients are derived from all natural stuff like the iron from spinage, the vitamin c from oranges etc... I really like them because they don't give me morning sickness and I now poop every day lol. I used to take the similac ones and those made me throw up all the time and be super nauseous! I say switch! They wouldn't be any better than any other brand really.

Yikes! That is super expensive!

I take a Flintstones Complete children's vitamin in the morning (which we already have at all times for the kiddos) & at night with dinner I take a Nature Made Prenatal + DHA. It was $20 at Target for a bottle of 90. https://www.naturemade.com/products/multivitamins/prenatal-dha-liquid-softgel

I lucked out, my insurance covers mine. CitraNatal 90 DHA. Sticker price at the WalMart pharmacy is $89 for a 30 day supply.

I'm from the UK and I still can't quite get my head around paying to have a baby.
I buy my vitamins from Asda (Walmart) and they are £12 for 45 days. x

I bought mine when they were on sale (i'm in the UK) I take the Mum to be from Sanatogen. They had a 3 for 2 offer in Tesco before I was even pregnant and I just stood there thinking.... shall I get it?? cause I usually use them whilst ttc aswell! Then I was like: why not, I'm gonna use them at some point, might aswell get them when they're on offer! Bought 3 pots of 30 for the price of 2, which was cheaper than just buying 1 big pot of 90! And soon after I found out I was pregnant!

Cost me £10.70, a pack of 30 is £5.35, so paid for 2 of them (got 3)

I am very fortunate to work at Whole Foods so I did get a discount on mine. Last week they were on sale though so I stocked up! I know each store has a different selection but anyone in the vitamin department should be able to help you find what is best for you. I personally love the Nutrition Now gummies, most are citrus flavored which is tasty and supposedly good ms prevention. Those are regularly $14 per bottle for 75 pieces, which lasts just over a month

Check out Prena Plus. I get them for just a $5 copay. They are cheaper for me than getting otc vitamins. :)

Prenatal gummy with DHA for me as well. Iron makes me puking sick. Less than $10 a month at Wal-Mart.

I take the OTC prenatals. I compared with what's in the prescription and then find an otc prenatal that has what I need. I am taking the Nature Made Prenatal + DHA.

Two things: ask your doctor about less expensive alternatives that they recommend. There are other prescriptions or OTC versions they can recommend. Also, look into doing the precription with a mail-in pharmacy. The script will have to be written for a 90-day supply, but it's significantly cheaper. I'm on Nexa Plus...it's $17/month with my insurance (Tricare Standard) at the local pharmacy or $17/90-day supply through mail in.
