Do you make each bottle fresh as and when needed? If not, how do you do it? Thanks.

I always prepare fresh bottles. When Omar was tiny, I used to add 1 oz of boiled water to the bottle then add all the formula to it to sterilise it, then top up with cool water (pre-boiled), give it a stir & ready to feed. You can prepare it the same way & keep it in the fridge (it lasts for 24 hrs in the fridge), then run it under hot water to warm it & give it to your LO. Or you can boil a kettle, leave the water for 15-20 mins to cool down (it should be around 70 oC to sterilise the formual), add it to the bottle add formula, shake/stir. leave it to cool down a bit & into the fridge, then heat it when needed. But I never pre-prepared bottles.

As advised by my midwife and doctor in 2009, I would either make up bottles with formula and put them in the fridge (for up to 24 hours max) or i would leave cooled boiled water in bottles at room temperature (for up to 48 hours max) and add the powder to it as i needed a bottle.

Every country has different rules it would seem.. So it will be interesting to see what everyone else does
:flower:

i usually make up about 6 bottles at a time with cooled boiled water and formula and put them in the fridge for up to 24 hours to use as required, it just seems the easiest way to do it x

I make 6 bottles at a time && keep them in the fridge :) they have usually been drunk before 24 hours

I make up bottles with cooled boiled water then add powder as required.

every evening i premake, rapid cool, store in fridge and warm up when needed. Next best thing to making up each feed fresh. X

I do the same as bathbabe morning & night. Will have to be more careful with timings now as need to start adding colief, so that has me a little confused as have to have 4 hours in fridge before can give to LO x

I buy distilled water since our tap water sucks. That way I don't have to boil it. That being said doctors etc around here think using unboiled tap water is perfectly fine.

DD doesn't like the taste of re-heated formula so I wash, sterilize the bottles, then add the right amount of water to each one so I add powder, shake, add thickener and shake.

Hi,

This thread is really helpful. Can I ask how you rapid cool the bottles and then how you reheat them when needed?

Thanks.

I make up bottles with half the amount of water I will need in advance.
For example, If I wanted a 8oz bottle, I would make 4oz water, put it in the fridge, when I need it, I add the other 4oz (making the water perfect temperature) and then add the milk.

I make up 4 bottles at a time (12 hours worth) -

Boil the kettle (always use fresh water, not repeatedly boiled)
Leave to cool for 5mins (max 15-20min or the water won't be hot enough to kill any bacteria in the formula)
Add required water to bottles
Add required powder to bottles
Pop lids and teats on
Cool quickly in the sink in cold water or in a pot/bowl of cold water
Put in the fridge
When needed either pop in bottle warmer, run under hot tap or pop into a jug of boiled water

I think this is the next best thing to fresh feeds as using cooled water won't kill off any bacteria in the formula powder.

If I have to go out I use the cool bags to keep the bottles cold until I can put them in someone else's fridge
