Have any of you found that Prilosec (Omiprazole) makes your baby's reflux worse?

Our son was born at 29 weeks and is now 37 weeks. He has had reflux since he was born. Things seem to have suddenly gotten worse with his reflux over the past 2 days to the point that he has gone from 1 reflux-related brady/day to 10+. Previously he would self recover from the brady but he is needing more and more intervention to come back up.

We are still in the NICU. The doc started him on Priolosec yesterday at 2pm- since then he has had 16 bradys, more than all the bradys combined in the previous 2 weeks.

Yesterday was also his first day off of caffeine, his second day off of oxygen and his second day getting all feedings by mouth (before that about 2/3 of feeding were through NG tube).

The nurses say that it isn't possible that Prilosec is making things worse. We refused the prilosec last night. Attending doc won't be in til tomorrow and the Resident we just spoke with is also of the opinion that we should stop the Prilosec so he's taken off the order for it.

We just don't know what to do now, and its so scary to be back at this place...we though we left all the brady spells behind weeks ago...

UPDATE: For those of you coming here withthe same question....l guess I can answer my own question now. We took him off Prilosec- and he hasn't had a spell in 12 hours now. It's looking like he was having a really bad reaction to the medication. Reflux is still there but it's not dropping his heart rate and oxygen saturation, as was what we'd come to expect before he was put on Prilosec. Will come back and update after a longer period off

:hugs: Im glad you figured it out and hope you can find something else for the reflux xx
