Hi all,

I only just found out I'm pregnant through ClearBlue!

I don't think I'm going to be patient enough to wait for 12 weeks for my first ultrasound, so I'm thinking of going private. I may sound unreasonable, but I had an early miscarriage in my first pregnancy and just want to make sure all goes OK this time.

Anyway, I wanted to ask if any of you had done private medical ultrasound scans and if so, please list prices and locations and a few words about your experience and if you would recommend the place. London clinics are really the ones I'm interested in, but other locations are welcome since other people may find these useful in the future.

Many thanks in advance for your input!

Hey, well iv had a few private scans now but up here in scotland. I also couldnt wait and went for a dating scan at 8 weeks! just cause my early nhs scan didnt give me any due date or anything. I found the private scan experience amazing. Lovely rooms the staff were very friendly and genuine. and id definatly reccomend it to put your mind at ease. Heres where i went..... https://www.babesinthewomb.com/

I went to babybond near Heathrow. Cost £99 for an early scan. Thats the cheapest one I found as Im too impatient and couldnt wait.

Hi Leyla,

Congratulations! I am 6+4 and had a mmc in April so am very nervous about things going wrong this time. What I wanted to say was that I have been given an early scan on the NHS to reassure me as I was so worried. I had it on Friday at 6+1 and saw the heartbear!! I plan to have another one at 8 weeks just to check that things are still ok as I am constantly anxious... So it might be worth speaking to your GP or EPU, although I know that different PCTs have different rules about these things, but it is def worth asking!

I'm sure everything will be fine though! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

Love Kristen x

As you have had an early miscarriage in the past your doctor may send you for an early scan so I would ask them before you pay for a private one :)

If i was you id go public that way you have the hosp scans as normal.
but have as many private scans as you need/want for reassurance
Here in ireland Maternity is Free (Hse)but on a normal preg there only one scan at 20wk
but because of my pregnancy history , i am now in high risk clinic and have already had 4 scans with HSE one at 5+3 another at 7+4 again at 9+6 and then 12+4 and iv booked a private one for myself in a private clinic in dublin for this wed (120.00 euro)
but il have another one at 17-18wk and iv HSE app then 1st Oct il be jus under 21wks
and if all goes well am booking my private 3d scan for 24-25wks..

I managed to get some prices myself and am posting in case people need:

The Bridge Centre (London Bridge):
-----------------------------------------------------
Ultrasound Scan - £135
Ultrasound Scan with Colour Doppler - £200
Ultrasound Scan by Doctor - £190
Ultrasound Scan by Doctor with Colour Doppler - £260
==========================================

St John & Elizabeth Hospital (St Johns Wood, London) - this one is literally 2 mins from my flat, but quite expensive:
------------------------------------------------------
Here the ultrasound scan prices are not accurately published but apparently it ranges from £180-300.

Thanks Kristen and congratulations to you too!

I thought with NHS you can only get one at 12 weeks then 24 and finally at 36 - am I wrong???

Most hospitals it is 12 and 20 only. You get one at 34 if you have health or weight problems.
I assume as Kristen77 had a MMC thats why she had one early.
I had one last Friday at 10+1 because I had a large bleed the day before, but its worth asking your GP or midwife (if you have one yet).

Hi there!! Congratulations! I had a private scan at the London Ultrasound Centre on Wimpole Street in Central London. It was £150 for the private scan. The staff were super nice and you got hear your baby's heartbeat and see it on a huge TV...it was amazing!

Good luck

I had my scan with Baby Premier. Mine was in Windsor and cost £95. They have a branch in London. https://www.babypremier.co.uk/locations.asp

I'm in Kent so not too far away... I had an early scan done at Kings Hill, Maidstone and it cost £50.

I'm in the East Midlands, Leicestershire. I would also really love an early scan at about 7 weeks to ease worries. Any ideas where I can get a private one done?? x

Where do you live? I know Kings College have a NHS walk in clinic for early pregnancy that runs 7 days a week, its mostly for dating etc but are willing to see most people but you may have a little wait.

Im going to the Kent one, its only £50 a scan is a scan, and I only want peace of mind. x
