Hiya Ladies,

Some of you might know me from TTC, well Im new in this forum!

Ive been suffering from a prolactinoma since I was young- which stops you from ovulating and making fertility difficult https://endocrine.niddk.nih.gov/pubs/prolact/prolact.htm . I was put on drugs to help cure & shrink the tumor, but was told to use contreceptives if having sex because it makes you ovulate randomly and makes you very fertile.

I stopped using this drug when the doctor accidently overdosed me (and put me in hospital as a result with a heart attack)... that was a year ago.

Now my OH and I are not using any contreceptives in hope of conceiving, this is our 6th cycle and nada as yet.

It has just occured to me that of course, my tumour could be whats preventing me from conceiving, so Im back on the Cabergoline (but a safe dose hahaha!) and this is my first cycle using it without contreception, although I only took it a day before I was meant to ovulate (if I do at all- I get the pains and ewcm at least!!!) so Im not sure it will have worked in time...nevertheless, if it is possible that it makes you ovulate at random times, then Im sure regular sex will be the answer!

I'm not sure if this is assisted conception? I assume so because Im taking drugs to cure my illness which causes infertility???

I wonder if anyone else suffers from this??? Id be happy to buddy up with people :-D

I am also aware of another problem.... My vaginal pH is TOO acidic, killing the sperm as they enter me, so Im using bicarbonate soda & bubble baths to neautralise me before we do the deed- I was advised to douche from certain people, but I know this is dangerous. However, I also know a woman who cant have bubble baths because it gives her thrush - so therefore having a bubble bath is sure to neautralise some of the acid so douching doesnt have to take place (so dangerous!!).

Hope I havnt bored you all, my illness is difficult to explain haha! :flower::flower::flower:

Welcome! :hi: Hope the meds help you get that beautiful bfp!

hiya hun, i have a small prolactimona diagnosed 2 yrs ago, i had huge amount of prolactin which pointed towards tumour but they have never scanned me just put me straight onto clomid which on the 6th month worked and i now have a 7 month old baby we started ttc when rhys was 8 weeks old lol we are anticipating it taking a while again we are now on our 3rd month of clomid and hoping the last i'm on cd 10 so not far off ovulation. i'd gladly be your buddy :friends:

AHHHHHHHHHHH, that would be awesome, Im so glad that I have someone in common- they scan me once every 2 years.

Not been on clomid, my doctor doesnt actually know Im TTC, because we are not trying, not preventing (doesnt make sense I know haha) so Im re-taking my cabergoline to bring prolactin levels down so hopefully it might change my fertility. I stopped taking cabergoline last yr, but after 6 months without contreception and having :sex: at the right times (i used OPKs to make sure) absolute nada, so Im hoping now I started taking it again, it might make a difference!

honeybee2,
so sorry to hear what you have been going through. I hope you get your BFP real soon.

Hi Honeybee. I was diagnosed with a small prolactinoma about 8 years ago. I had come off the pill to get preggers but periods did not return for about 2 years but GP kept sending me away:wacko:. Finally (!!) it was diagnosed and put on Cabergoline. However, gynae said there was evidence that the contraceptive pill actually makes these tumors larger and so I would have to use some other kind of contraception if we did not want to get pregnant. Anyway, since then, 8 years on, I'm finally embarking on IUI soon (having been messed around a lot by healthcare professionals). I have been told to come off the Cabergoline which I came off last September 2008 (was scheduled for IUI last year but when I went for my baseline scan they found I was riddled with endometriosis, which I had been telling them I had all along and has put me back a year in fertility treatment:growlmad:) because they are not sure about the effects of Cabergoline on the foetus.
I'm really hoping that your journey doesnt take as long as mine.

oh my gosh- you poor poor thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope that the IUI gives you your dream baby- and yes, hoping it wont take me that long. Ive been off the cabergoline for a year now, but off contreceptives for 6 months (condoms, not the pill or anything) and as no BFP yet, back on the cabergoline to lower prolactin. Ive heard its not been tested on pregnnat women, but Im going to give it a shot and stop taking it as soon as i get my bfp! :hugs:

Good luck Honeybee. I was meant to have my baseline scan for IUI this week but I'm still waiting for AF - 2 days late. Got a horrible feeling my prolactin levels might be playing a part in that 'cause did a preg test this morning and BFN.

Honeybee you said that your doctor doesn't know you are ttc - it would seem to me that you might want to inform them of this to see if the medication is safe and regarding the douching etc. I would think things like that might also kill sperm. How did you find out your "fluids" are too acidic? - from the doctor?

Hiya hun, I did mention to my doctor that we were not trying, not preventing ages ago, but my doctor gave me the third degree (your too young blah blah blah) so basically, Im not telling my Doctor anything. Ive been on these drugs since I was 12 hun, and Ive done so much research on them & seen so many specialists that Im pretty much up to date on them. They have not been tested on pregnant women before, so no one can say if they're safe or not- although there is nothing in them which should directly affect the feotus.
I dont douche, it was somethingmentioned by a midwife on the net for women whos vaginal pH was too acidic for sperm. I just have a bath with bicarbonate soda in it before we :sex: I dont interferre with anythign down there after the deed, infact I dont move for an hour after. I found out my pH was too acidic because i was burning after sex, had tests done by doc, no STI's or anything, and then I burnt my boyfriend and so ordered pH strips from ebay- and turns out i am too acidic. :winkwink:

If your fluids are too acidic I would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Preseed, as this helps with the Ph balance, therfore helps his swimmers to swim further lkwim!
I used it and got my BFP every time! I gave the last batch to my friend, who had been trying for almost 8 years, and she got a BFP first time too.

wow- im getting some of that then hahah! cheers hun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! x

I am 23 years old and have been told my my ob that I have prolactinoma and so next Friday I will have my mri and then see the reproductive endocrinologist on the 10th. My levels got really high after I m/c july 09 and my cycle has become about 36 days. Hopefully soon I will know how bad it is
