I have PCOS, I have had to take Provera to induce AF for the last two cycles (prior I skipped AF for over a year), and Femara to induce ovulation for the last cycle. I got negative OPK's CD 8-22 so I had my progesterone level checked and it was 0.8!!! I did not ovulate and had I ovulated and gotten pregnant I would have most likely miscarried with this low of a progesterone level.

My question to you ladies is that my doctor has now prescribed Prometrium 200mg CD 17-28. When I stop taking this shouldn't I get withdrawl bleed? I'm thinking this will cut out the need for Provera? Anyone with any experience with this I would greatly appreciate comments!!!

Also, will I have to take the Prometrium through pregnancy? I go to the doctor October 3rd and will ask her all these questions too of course!

I am sorry, I dont know the answer to your question but why would you say with a progesterone level of .8 that you would have miscarried? I havent ovulated in four months and have gotten my progesterone checked three times. They were .4, .5, and . something else. Yours is higher than mine without ovulation.. what makes you say that you would have miscarried?

Firstly, the doctor's office clearly stated that I did not ovulate and that if I had ovulated based on my progesterone level it would most likely have resulted in miscarriage. Additionally, I've done some of my own research on the topic. Not very extensive research but some research.... What I've found is that during the first trimester progesterone levels should be above 9. The lowest level I've found that didn't result in miscarriage was also 9 (from stories of others with low progesterone). Low progesterone levels can be an indication that miscarriage may happen. The progesterone plays such an important role in sustaining the pregnancy by preparing the uterine lining for implantation and keeping the lining thick for a pregnancy. With low levels of progesterone the lining simply isn't able to sustain a pregnancy as well as a higher level of progesterone would have allowed for. Again, this is just what I've found on a quick bit of research. There may be other research/stories out there that indicate a lower level can sustain a pregnancy. But, based on what my doctor's office told me and what I've personally read... I certainly don't feel that 0.8 is adequate. :( I was prescribed the prometrium so that if I do get pregnant I will have a lower risk of miscarriage.

Regarding ovulation: https://www.fertilityplus.org/faq/hormonelevels.html "A level over 5 probably indicates some form of ovulation, but most doctors want to see a level over 10 on a natural cycle, and a level over 15 on a medicated cycle."

i was given prometrium to bring on my period just like provera would (i knew i wasnt pregnant). i took it for 5 days, and got my period 3 days after stopping it.

Well I was given Provera to bring AF, Then Femara from day 3 to day 11, hcg injection to trigger ovulation, and Prometrium starting from day of ovulation for 14 days, after that I was tested at my fertility MD for pregnancy, If you are pregnant you are suppose to continue to take Prometrium till week 12, if not once you stop taking Prometrium you period will come back with 2-3 days, Saw MD in Feb got pregnant with first cycle, ended as blighted ovum in May (M/C naturally, denied D/C or the pill), nothing happened in June ( I mean not pregnant), Got Pregnant again in July, right now in my 12th week Saw heartbeat three time, at 6.1, 6.3 (as had a slight brown discharge) again at 8.2, Having my next scan next week. good luck ladies..........

I just wanted to say thank you. I am so sorry I flipped out and was freaking out on your question. I really appreciate you answering me. I thought you meant that .8 pre ovulation was like a precursor to having a MC after ovulating and I flipped. I am soo sorry that I like posted like a mad woman on your thread.

And also, I did a little research after seeing this too. And I found one where a lady was pregnant with twins and her progesterone was a 7! Luckily they caught it and gave her suppositories and she had a wonderful pregnancy.

EDIT:

I just reread your question and I have no clue why I freaked out. Lol it is obviously NOT what your post even says. So once again, I am really sorry!

:hugs: So sorry for your loss but wishing you a happy and health 9 months!!! Thanks for clearing all of that up. I was thinking that's how the Prometrium should work but wanted to make sure. The nurse that called wasn't very clear on anything other than me needing Prometrium CD17-28...

It's okay! No worries!!! I imagine I'd be upset if I read it the same way you did. :hugs: And what a lucky lady indeed for twins not to mention with her progesterone level!

I just miscarried after having a progesterone level of 1.8 at 5 weeks pregnant. My doctor is starting me on Prometrium after I take one cycle to allow my uterus a break to get thick and ready!

:hugs: Sorry to hear of your loss. Is the miscarriage how you learned of your low progesterone level? Fx'd that with the Prometrium you can get another :bfp: and have a happy and healthy 9 months!

Unfortunately yes! My first MC was in June but by the time they saw the levels were low I was already MC'ing so they weren't sure if this was the cause. This time around my beta hcg was great but my Progesterone was too low. The day they were going to put me on supplements I started to bleed so that was out. The doctor is almost 100% sure this is the cause of my 2 MC's. Kinda bittersweet at this point! So sad that I MC'd but so relieved we found out the problem. Thanks and I have everything crossed that this works and we'll have a great secret to tell as a christmas present!! :)
