Question About IVF

Exactly how many trips to your FS do you need during the whole process of IVF?? The reason I'm asking is that we're going for a consult next week. The clinic is a good 2 hours from where we live. I was planning on taking a week's vacation during this time...as there is no way I can get to the clinic and back in enough time.

When you're taking the drugs how long are you on them for? Do you have to be monitored everyday?

Hi

I've had 2 cycles of IVF so can give you some idea but again it depends on your clinic and how you respond to the drugs. Once we'd had our consultation and had decide we were going ahead with IVF, we were given our packet of pill and told to start them on next period.

We had our 1st appt to collect our drugs and explain how to take them shown how to do injections etcI know I was overwhelmed the 1st fime when I saw the big bag of drugs but all I can say is just take it step by step. On that day we also signed up our consents and it was explained to us exactly what would happen throughout the process, we were also given a date to start our down regulation drugs.

I had to take the DR drugs for 14 days and had a scan on day 13 and also bloods taken on that day after that I started my stimulation drug for 10 days I had a scan on day 8 day 10 and day 11 on day 11 I took my hcg drug and I had EC on day 13 and had ET on day 19. So in total I had 8 appts at the clinic but strechted out from the 18/04 to 24/05.

But like I said it depends on the clinic and how your responding on first cycle I had only 7 trips to the clinic. I know its difficult with work but I think if you can take a couple days off after EC to rest and also after tfr its important you will be tired. You can always ask your GP for a Cert but don't make my mistate I work for a large company and I stupidly thought I was doing right in explaining why I needed the time off but I was told it was "elective" and I was not entitled to sick leave if that was the reason.

Hey Chris

Bit different here due to NHS funding BUT...... we had first visit, due to LP we were on BCP for a month then started down regging 11 days then went to FS for scan injections for 11 days and during those 11 days 3 further scans were booked, 2 were the week before EC. Then it was EC and depending on how well the embies went i.e. 'regular' 72 hours or blasts - 5 days, you go back and have them popped in for baking!

So reckon all in all i was looking at 6 trips from down regging to ET x
