Will docs/GP's prescribe anything here in the UK for morning sickness??

I'm not having a great time at all, i'm basically throwing up 24/7 here and i'm only 7 weeks. I'm already off work coz of it :(

They do give you something. I don't think they like doing it but if you're losing weight and it's meaning you physically can't do much then they'll give you something to help.

oh hunny i dont know, why do you give them a ring and ask or go 2 the chemist and ask them

they gave me tablets as soon as i said how bad i had mornin sickness and have had 2 diffferent types of tablets because of how bad i was.. after i while i realised they wasnt workin and ano it sounds mad wen ppl say it bu bananas really do help they settle my stomach an i can actually eat half a meal which is better than eating nothing at all. i am in my 11 th week now and my mornin sickness is finally wearin off which am glad :happydance: haha

good luck on gettin better = ] x

Love Rachel n Bump x x

if its still as bad tomorrow as it is today i will ring docs on monday am, i have some bananas so i will try them between now and then.
I cant afford to be off work sick coz i dont get paid for sickness :(

Oh i hope you feel better soon, i suffered from morning sickness really badly, my doctor told me she could give me an injection/tablets, but as always with medicines there is a small chance they can harm the baby. Didn't want to risk anything because i'm paranoid as it is, so i just had to put up with the sickness. I couldn't keep anything down so just sipped lucozade which helped keep my energy up.
I now force myself to eat toast everymorning and eat something every 2 hours. This helps a lot.
If you feel really ill monday still definately make an appointment to see the doctor. I know hw it feels, hang in there, trust me it gets better xxx

i had terrible morning sickness at around 6 weeks and to cut a long story short i ended up in hospital for a week due to being so dehydrated from throwing up so much, its a condition called hypremesis and affects 5% of pregnant women in the UK.
when i was admitted they were giving me anti-sickness injections but they made me feel really sleepy so they gave me pills instead, when i was discharged they sent me home with anti-sickness tablets i cant remeber what they were called but when they ran out i went to the GP to get some more and he told me i couldnt and they only way i could get them again is if i was admitted back to hospital, the thing is they really worked and i relied on them, thankfully i didnt get admitted again but i dont think they will give u meds at GP for morning sickness unless ur suffering from hypremesis but i think u should definatly try anyway coz the feeling is terrible and to be honest its put me off being ppregnant again...lol
hope u feel better soon my sickness wore aff about 11 weeks so just try stick it out if u have no luck with doc its all worth it in the end

I had awful morning sickness and they offered me a tablet to calm it down.I can't remember what it was called, but if you tell your GP that its bad theyll give you it probably.
xxx

I too had hyperemesis gravidum and was taken into hospital a couple of times, I was given 2 different tablets and suppositories for when the tablets wasn't good enough. I was very lucky I had a repeat prescription in the end for the stuff, as I suffered with it throughout my pregnancy, but it enabled me to lead a semi-normal life.

There are not many Doctors at all that will prescribe anti sickness drugs, nermind the ones I had, as some do carry possible problems for the baby, but if things become bad, they have to weigh up your well being versus the risks. I hope you are feeling better very soon! :hugs:x

there are a lot of things they can prescribe they are just very reluctant to do it. I asked about them and they were very reluctant until about 20 weeks when i wasnt able to do anything at all, i was finding it hard to feed Izzie without being ill so she put me on something, i cant remember what it was but it made me worse lol, she said there were other options, but i decided to just stick it out, it wasnt long after i had Kabe, but they gave me some AFTER he was born as i was still being sick when i was in labour etc, it stopped it for a few days but i wasnt given any more. I dont know if its available if your pregnant though, cos id had Kabe when i got it. but i'll ask. I have an emergency appt tomorrow morning with our HV so i can ask if you want :)

ok, so this is what she was going on about, any thing that has been prescribed for anti-sickness etc hasnt been tested enough to look into what causes it and how thid drug prevents it in relation to pregnancy. She doesnt want to give out a name for you to go and get it etc and then something go wrong. She insists you need to speak to your doctor about this blah blah etc. And he can help, she did however say during this that no drugs have been properly tested apart from one, she wrote a name down and left it on the desk lol, but insisted she couldnt tell me a name lol. it was https://www.netdoctor.co.uk/medicines/100002455.html

i looked it up, lol

she couldnt say it, and said she shouldnt be giving advice reallly as she doesnt know you and your situation, and only your doctor can, but this is the one she would recommend as she has had hundreds of patients on it and nothing *touch wood* has gone wrong whilst people have been on it. she did however say it was importnant to stop at around 20 weeks if you were still getting these symptoms as it takes 5 weeks to leave the body and could be transferred into the brast milk, if you were thinking of B Feeding.

hope this maybe helps a little, but mainly the be all and end all is that you gotta see your doc before taking lol.

Sorry x

oh this is really useful for me too ... im not actually throwing up but i am feeling constantly soo sick ... would they still prescribe something for me coz its really bad :( !

you can be yes, if it is at the stage where it leaves you drained, or stops you doing things then they have a duty to help you feel better. I wasnt being ill at 6/7 weeks but felt really bad constantly, with Izzie being young too they prescribed me something, it made me feel so much better, it was only when i got to about 11/12 i got something else for being actualy sick.

just speak to your GP or who ever you see most for baby etc and they should be able to help.

I had bad sickness in my previous pregnancy and they gave me anti sickness tablets called Rantidin or something like that.

I called the doctors this morning for an appointment, they couldnt give me a face to face one but the doctor will give me a telephone consultation. He's due to ring after 9am so will update after then. Thanks for all your help.

(I also spoke to my cousin who said her doc prescribed her travel sickness tablets for her morning sickness)

Just spoke to the doc there the now. He said he'll leave me a prescription to collect this morning, not sure what it is he never said on the phone but i guess i'll find out soon enough. I just hope it works! Will let you know what it is when i get it. He also said if it doesnt work to go in and see him after the holidays.

yea, the conversation was no different to one we'd have had face to face to be honest. He would have had all my notes to hand anyway. I guess if he thought i needed an exam he'd have insisted on seeing me. The docs here have a pretty good reputation.

thats really good that ur docs do that , ive been waiting this long soo sick just to get an appointment to get something ... did u ask to speak to ur doc or is it a special thing like telephone docs or something ?

No, its our regular doctors surgery. Usually there is about a week to 2 weeks wait for a non-emergency appointment. If you need an emergency or urgent appointment you need to call between 8 & 9am. The receptionist asks if it is an emergency, obviously if they thought bad enough they refer you to A&E. I said not an emergency, but would like to see or speak to a doc & told her the prob. They then do a quick assessment as to wether they think you need to see the doc or if the doc can speak on the phone and make a decision from there.

Its a damn good service to be honest. My mum had hip replacements last year and he painkillers wernt working too good, but shes not one for fuss and wouldnt go to the docs so i made her call and the doc dealt with it all on a phone consultation and gave her a new prescriptions blah blah...

Besides it saved me trailing all the way down there this morning feeling the way i do for nothing if they couldnt have seen me.
