after the hell I went though due to this virus & the long lasting effects it has on many families, I feel there should be more done to raise awareness! I was so shocked that barely anyone knew what CMV was until I explained it..

https://cmvaction.org.uk/

I actually joined this forum looking for help, I wanted to see if anyone else was going through what I was but at the time I had no such luck. the only real support I found was this website.

I just thought I'd post this thread to give all the info I can, it's such a common virus that not many people know much about. :flower:

I've never even heard of it, just had a look at the website.

Good for you for raising awareness.

I had CMV when I was 15 and missed almost a year of school! I remember it taking me a few years to get back to feeling truly healthy. Did you have it while you were pregnant? I can only imagine how awful that must have been.

Just visited the website and realised you were talking about fetuses/babies. Although I assume that means you contracted it during pregnancy. Hope your LO is ok.

I caught this whilst I was pregnant with my son who is now 8. I knew nothing about it until after he was born and they were trying to figure out why he was deaf, he has many other problems due to this. I see there is a little bit about it on the NHS website now, there wasn't when I was pregnant.

xxxxx

i had no idea what cmv was until i tested positive while undergoing all tests for egg sharing ivf, i tested positive so treatment had to be put on hold, then we got pregnant naturally so was re tested to make sure that it was no longer active, thankfully results came back fine so shouldnt have a problem! i do think there should be more awareness of this as ive read up on the effects and they can be devastating, also would be good if people know that this could be the reason if their baby is born with any problems x

I totally agree navywag. I'm glad everything's okay with you and your baby! :flower:
