realistically how long will i be breastfeeding a newborn per day?

Once you get up to speed breastfeeding requires less concentration than bottle feeding (don't need to wind so often/generally less spit up) so you can still entertain toddler. Also, it's only really time consuming for a few weeks so even if you need to rely a lot more on tv and fish fingers it doesn't really matter.

If your baby is feeding every hour and taking 40mins+ per feed it suggests your milk is not transferring efficiently and you might want to check latch/positioning/tongue tie with an expert.

I think I spent about half of my day either bfing or trying to wake him up enough to eat for the first two weeks. It gradually got easier and easier but bfing didn't become second nature for us til maybe 3 months or so then we were done I. 15 mins and nursing about every 3 hours.
