Really Short Periods after Mirena Removal?

I had the Mirena in for a little over a year and got it taken out this past January. I had WICKED light periods while on the Mirena and then had 4 weeks of heavy bleeding after it was removed.

Now it seems like my periods are on a "normal" cycle but it's only about 24 days vs. the 28-30 days it used to be. I've used OPK's for the last 2 months and followed all my cervical fluid signs for TTC but we keep coming up negative (my first two were each conceived in one month of TTC.

Could it be that I'm not ovulating right now? (I'm wondering because my periods are SOO short). The OPK's had been positive but I'm just not sure anymore... I'm getting so sad and frustrated.

sorry i don't have any advice, but i will be following this thread b/c i have mirena in and wondering how long before ttc i should get it taken out

Hi hun im going through the same! Had mirena in for 5 years with no periods at all,had it removed 2 years ago and periods have been non existant!! Last May had an early misc and been reffered to fertility and had lots of tests done. I had a really weird af 2 weeks ago which was so light didnt need to use anything and have felt pms since..Think my hormones are all over the place x x Lets hope more people give there thoughts on post mirena

Hi, I've had a Mirena coil twice, both times it was in place my periods stopped within 2 months and then no more periods till they were removed.

One was removed in late 2008 after being in place 5 years. I got my period approximately 30 days after it's removal. I had 1-2 days of light, irregular bleeding and then nothing for 2 days and then a normal bleed (which for me was 4 days of moderate bleeding). My first cycle was 30 days then dropped to 29 days there after. I was TTC in 2009 and did temps & charts all of which showed I was ovulating and a 21 day test also confirmed it.

I then had a Mirena coil fitted in Nov 2009 and this was removed in March 2011. Again 4 weeks after removal I had 2 days of light, irregular bleeding then nothing for 2 days then 4 days of moderate bleeding. Currently on cycle 1 so not sure on my cycle length yet.

Due to the progestin in it, the Mirena coil can affect each woman differently and each woman can take differing times to get back onto a normal cycle and for ovulation to reoccur.

If you're worried as to whether you are ovulating then it is worth talking to your doctor and asking for a 21 day test which will confirm if you are ovulating or not. Hopefully your doctor will be sympathetic.
