Recurrent Miscarriage Thread

eab- heparin and lovenox are basically the same thing, you wouldn't take both, are you sure he knows what he's doing?

Thanks hopeful, for the concern. I am pretty sure I am the one who misunderstood then. I should be receiving everything via mail in a few days so that I can actually try to understand what is going on. The phone conversation was pretty short and I am pretty new with all this terminology.

eabwhab - hope you get to speak to your doctor soon. All the testing really takes its toll :(. Sometimes I feel like this experience makes it feel like your body is against you. A lot of ladies do have good results with the combination, it would be the next step for me too. :hugs:

sweetmere - sorry for your losses.

Thanks blueblue. I hope things are going well with you

sorry for spamming with so many posts....
Are intralipids an alternative to IVIG? Do they work as well no matter the reason you were prescribed IVIG?
I found conflicting info on the web. What is your opinion/personal experience?
I have also found conflicting information about NK cells and their role on RMC. Some doctors, like my RE, think they have no role in it. It is all so confusing

Thank you, I'm sorry about yours too. :(

Yes, we tested last week and my levels were 0 the week after, the week of january 12th. I was quite surprised. It took longer for my 6 week loss to drop but I guess the d&c sped it up.

sometimes it is just better to get over with asap. Keep us posted with your results, i still have a bunch of things that my re wants to check. :hugs:

Ladies what vitamins/supplements do you take? I'm gettong totally confused about how much and which ones. Currently taking a pre-conception, vitamin d, and b complex. But I've also heard about vit e and magnesium?

Hello there everyone!

My DH and I have been TTC for about a year and a half. In the past year I've had 3 very early miscarriages. My first was a chemical pregnancy (Dec 2013) which ended in a period. I was about 5 weeks. My doc wasn't too worried about it and said it happens quite often. I waited a cycle before trying again. My next pregnancy(March 2014) was thought to be an ectopic. An ultrasound showed nothing but my levels were rising. At 6 weeks it was determined that it was ectopic and I was given a shot of methotrexate to end the non-viable pregnancy. Of course this was extremely devastating. My OB referred me to a specialist to have an HSG as well as other tests performed. My HSG showed that my left tube was blocked (probably from the ectopic) but my right was absolutely fine! I had just about every test imaginable done. From chromosome testing, to my husband's sperm count being tested, to every other common reason for miscarriages (progesterone etc). Everything came back normal. The only thing "out of whack" was my thyroid level. I was told I had hypothyroidism and was prescribed synthroid which I began taking and my levels went down to normal. In Nov 2014 we tried again and in Dec. 2014 I had another chemical pregnancy. I was just 4 weeks, I tested very early. With this being my third loss, we were beyond devastated. My doctor ordered additional blood tests which all came back normal. I just don't know what to think.

My doctor said we can try again on our own and recommended I take a daily regimen of baby aspirin. If I miscarry again though she will strongly recommend IVF. If IVF is our only option to conceive, we are definitely open to it but I REALLY hope to get pregnant (and stay pregnant) without any intervention.

Anyways, sorry for the long introduction! I have only told a handful of family/friends about our losses as I feel it is really personal and I don't like sharing too much but holding on to this pain gets really lonely. I was hoping by joining this forum I might meet other women TTC and possibly someone who has a similar story. My prayers go out to all of you TTC as this is such an exciting yet terrifying time! Thanks for reading!

Thanks Florida, I'll add some omega 3 to my daily regimen and ask the dr about taking more folic acid. Are you on it just as a prevention? Are there any side effects to the bigger dose?

Myrainbow I'm so sorry for your losses. I am quite new to this as I have just had 3 losses in a row since November 2014. I've been doing a lot of reading and asking the girls on this forum who have a wealth of knowledge, and so far I gathered that there is a lot of hope out there for us with "unexplained miscarriage" and most women go on to have a healthy pregnancy, with or without treatment. I found this study that had promising results with folate, aspirin, steroids, and progesterone https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16716321 so it might be something to try before you go on to ivf. I'll be asking my doctor if I can give it a go when I next see her, I don't think we have anything to lose.

Steph I was told to take it by my recurrent miscarriage specialist. I take 4000mg. It's apart if my regimen.
My rainbow there are other things to try. If you can list your tests the girls here can tell you what else we've had done. Also I'm the same except no thyroid issue. Move had 5 mc all bloods normal. I am under a fertility dr/recurrent miscarriage specialist and he had me do an iui so my cycle could be medicated and timed. With the iui they can stop the cycle if you ovulate on the side with the blocked tube. Because they monitor you via us. Also the regimen that Stephen said works as well for many women. Have your vit d level checked. You may want to be checked for nk cells, uroplasemea as well. Good luck

MyRainbow - welcome, I'm so sorry for your losses. It is a very lonely experience but you will find lots of support and information here. A lot of ladies use the regime that Steph described, also using lovenox/heparin - a blood thinner.

Steph - thank you for the link, it's really helpful. Ask your doctor about the folic acid. Don't let this put you off, I was on a high dose and I had a homocysteine test as I was concerned whether I had the MTHFR gene mutation (high levels as associated with it). It actually came back too low so I don't think I do, this was probably due to the folic acid so I switched to 400mg folate (as l.metafolin) instead.

Thanks so much for your support and recommendations! I actually spoke with my doctor and she wants me to wait 4 weeks before trying again. She wants me to repeat the lupus anticoagulant test for a third time before we TTC. The first time it was positive but it was right after my miscarriage so she said that might by why. The second was negative so we'll see what the third one is in about 3 weeks now. I'm hoping she will put me on something (even a blood thinner) as I do have a feeling I have something going on with clotting. I just want to make sure I'm doing everything I can to maximize my chances of a sticky baby! It's not really the issue of getting pregnant for me, just STAYING pregnant :nope:

Gosh, I don't even know if I can remember all the tests I've had done. It was a full infertility work up. I don't know if I know the exact names but here's what I can remember: checked if I ovulate (I do), checked my uterus with ultrasound (good shape, all normal), checked follicles (was in the "good" range), HSG done (left blocked-probably due to my ectopic last year), hubby's semen analysis(all good), both my DH and my chromosomes were checked (perfectly normal), thyroid checked (I have hypothyroidism, currently on 75 mcg of synthroid), FSH, LH, Luteal p4 (all normal), lupus anticoagulant (first test positive but might have been because I had just had a miscarriage), (2nd test negative and will wait 4 weeks to test a third time just to make sure).

I was my doc if we should wait TTC until my 3rd lupus anticoagulant test and she said yes. I'm hoping that means she will put me on something before trying again in order to increase my chance of a sticky baby! Currently, I'm just on low dose aspirin, NeoQ10, prenatals. Sending baby dust to all! :baby:

I really feel that I have something wrong with clotting. This might be TMI but I get pretty large clots during normal periods and always have. We're talking like half dollar size of larger. Anyone else have this?

Do you have a family history of blood clotting disorders such as DVT? It can be a risk factor. I have a family history, but all my tests for inherited disorders (Prothrombin gene, Factor V Leiden) have come back normal. Tasha was saying on one of the other threads that there may be other clotting factors they haven't discovered yet, I think the Prothrombin gene was only discovered in the 90's. Have you had the tests for these as well as the Anti-Phospholipids test? They are usually part of the screening for recurrent miscarriage.

I used to get more menstrual clots when I was younger, as my periods have improved they have stopped, not sure if it is a hormonal thing?

Yes there may be. St Mary's in Paddington offer a TEG blood test (as well as the standard blood tests), it looks at how your blood clots rather than for specific clotting disorders.

It's a shame that other hospitals don't offer the test.

Hi Ladies. Finally got my RPL loss testing back and the only thing that was wrong is high homocysteine levels. I have all of my natural b6/b12/folate ordered. Anyone else have this? Apparently it causes chromosomal abnormalities and blood clots in the uterus?

Was the lupus test the Ana? Mine was light positive first time I had labs then negative the second test. I don't have any known clotting disorders I tried aspirin I think the last two pregnancies unfortunately it didn't help. So my specialist that I started seeing put me on Lovenox. Xx
