Recurrent Miscarriage Thread

Thanks ladies. I'll wean off then when we get there. I appreciate the feedback and am so grateful for this thread! It's amazing what a wealth of knowledge is right here!

Stucki, I decreased by 5mg every three days in order to wean off. Even when I had my blighted ovum. I had two successful pregnancies with steroids, aspirin, fragmin (a lmwh), progesterone and omega 3 capsules.

Hey ladies can I join please? I just had my 4th miscarriage, 3rd loss in a row and have 2 ds's, the last I had infertility prior also and had treatment! I had my first loss before DS1 and then the period of infertility with a probable chemical, then had an iui after 2.5 years which resulted in twins, my DS2 and another loss of the other twin. Then after ds 2 I was diagnosed with hashimotos and have been on meds for about 6 months and getting that under control and now without even trying I have had 2 bfps and 2 losses in 3 months. One at 7 weeks and just a sac and egg yolk developed and the other I was barely pregnant at about 4.5 weeks. So after the confusion of the infertility I am now having the confusion of recurrent miscarriages. Gp has referred me for more tests and as well as testing for thyroid antibodies which I knew about, I have had a positive ana test which could mean I have lupus or the gp things maybe antiphospholipid syndrome and may explain my miscarriages! So I'm guessing my losses are due to my funky immune system/clotting issue and it's basically attacking the embryos?? Does this sound about right? Anyone else with similar issues?? Was wondering if I get a bfp before, ntnp atm should I self medicate with aspirin to see if that helps it stick? Any advice would be amazing thanks girls xx

Sorry to hear of your losses IsaacRalph. If you're in the middle of testing for recurrent loss, I would actually advise actively preventing until you have the results TBH rather than ntnp. BrunetteBimbo on this forum has APLS & was successfully treated with blood thinner injections - I've been told by my consultant that aspirin alone isn't enough (which is why I advise against the ntnp & self-medicating). I don't know if BB still reads this thread, but if you look up her journal, I'm sure she'll tell you more (I'm on my phone or I'd post a link). Good luck :)

Thanks for the info squig I will look bb up and check out her journal! I guess you're right I should wait until we know what's going in. I am waiting for my refer but gp didn't know whether to refer to gynea or rheumatology because of the positive ana. Guess I'll find out soon enough! I hope they take me seriously as for years with the infertility I was told there was nothing wrong and to stop worrying. Well to me after losses and a spell of infertilty there is something wrong so although I am not desperate for another child I want to find out one way or another. I don't want to go on the pill or anything so I guess I will just avoid intercourse mid cycle xx thanks

I'm not much help with the ANA test or anything but I can second Squig's advice on wtt. I'm in that boat as well since I just had 2 back to back losses (my 9th and 10th overall) 3 months ago. The dr recommended waiting 3 cycles before ttc again and while I'm done with my 3 month wait now, I'm still wtt as we just found out my uncle has 2 really rare clotting disorders and one is known to cause m/c. I need to meet with my dr to get tested for that as well as setting up a possible HSG to check out my uterus and I'm halfway through a 90 day exercise program that I'd like to complete (and possibly do again) before getting pg again. It's hard to wait as I want to get back to trying again but in the end, I'm finding it's worth it. FX you get some answers this time and you'll be holding your rainbow baby soon.

Thanks dairymomma! Yeah you're right we are going to avoid getting pregnant before our tests are done. It's really hard as I'm ovulating around now and it feels so strange just letting it pass by but it's nothing in the grand scheme of things. Had some brilliant news, was told the waiting list for app at local hospital ( torbay) was roughly about 8-12 weeks and that was just with the nurses who would have taken bloods etc. Did some ringing around and spoke to professor Quenbys secretary and she said they accept out of areas referrals on nhs ( based in Coventry ) so spoke to my gp secretary and requested a referral and I only got one for the 21st August and that's with the professor. I am so pleased I have read some good things about her and she treated our friends who have gone onto have a little girl. So got something in the pipeline and hopefully have some answers soon. Anyone been to her clinic?

I know there are a few other ladies on here who have seen her. I can ask around over on the PARL thread too to see if anyone is currently under her care.

Hi Hun. I have and I hold her and Professor brosens (who runs the clinic with her) responsible for the fact that I had my little boy six weeks ago after sixteen miscarriages and a stillbirth.

They will see you on the NHS but I think the biopsy for natural killer cells is only partially funded by the nhs. Do you have any questions Hun?

That is amazing news tasha, congratulations on your baby boy but poor you for suffering all those losses! I can't bare much more 4 is enough for me now. My app is on the 21st and was going to try and get the biopsy done too but the advice is that you have to have 2 cycles since last miscarriage. I had a d&c in may and then a period after but then I had a chemical so period was delayed for 2 days. Do you think they will refuse to fit in for testing in 10 days?? I've had a positive opk today so could go on August 10th! Not sure how strict they are but on leaflet it's says even if you have a recent ivf failure to wait for 2 periods. Guessing they might view this the same as having a chemical? Grr just don't want too many months go by where we can't try and knowing we are seeing her in a few weeks this cycle is a bust! What treatment did you have? What was you diagnosed with tasha? Xx thanks for the reply

Thanks but where can I find the PARL thread? what does it stand for?

PARL stands for Pregnant After Recurrent Loss and it's in the Pregnancy After Loss forum. I asked over there and Tasha already replied to you. Not sure if anyone else is seeing Dr. Q atm though but they should find their way here if they are.

You are welcome. I know how hard it is to feel alone in this world of recurrent pregnancy loss so I try to help out when I can.

Yeah they view chemicals as having to wait hun.

I was diagnosed with elevated natural killer cells and factor v Leiden!

I have seen Prof Quenby, was a few years ago in Birmingham.
She prescribed me 20mg steroids from BFP but I miscarried on this. I then switched to Shehata and had my rainbow boy in 2013.
Is there anything specific you want to know, I can try and help best I can.

Stucki, basically what Tasha and Petipas said. I started to wean off pred at 12 weeks, dropped 5mg every 3 days. Good luck xx.

Very curious to know what your treatment was tasha! My friend who had just natural killers was put on steroids and fragmin I think!
Thanks for the info Lee, what was you diagnosed with and what was your treament regime on your successful pregnancy?? Congratulations on your rainbow baby so pleased for you xx guessing she may suggest steroids for me too as I have thyroid antibodies and ana antibodies and the research suggests steroids, fragmin/clexane and maybe aspirin. Obviously need to get more testing done for recurrent miscarriage but this is what I know already!

My protocol was folate (5mg), vitamin d, iron, prenatal, progesterone (400mg twice a day), aspirin (75mg x 2 a day), prednisone (25mg a day weaning at 12 weeks), anti malaria tablets (prescribed by someone else) and high dose clexane (usual dose is 40mg for my weight and I was having 160mg a day).

Wow that's some regime tasha but hey it worked how good is that! What does the anti malaria tablet do??
