Recurrent Miscarriage Thread

It's an immune system suppressant like the prednisone. I miscarried on the steroids alone. For me though I think the answer was in the clexane, I know my blood is super clotty, it's why my two girls were stillborn, my TEG (blood test that looks at the way your blood clots at St Mary's) said it was soooooo clotty. When I had my little girl after my first stillbirth she got into distress and when she was born her placenta was unhealthy because it was full of clots despite me being on 40mg of clexane a day, Orion's placenta only had a few clots in and we were on the 160mg. I'd said for years that I didn't think the normal dose was enough for me and the first time someone listens I get my rainbow.

Isaac, Prof Quenby doesn't support the use of aspirin in general. I saw her too last year after 5 early losses & had the NK cells biopsy. I didn't have elevated levels so I was only on progesterone & Clexane. I only waited one cycle after my 5th loss but my lining was only just thick enough for the biopsy to be done so maybe that's why they tell you to wait for 2? Also, you get the biopsy done at a certain point in your cycle, ie 7-10 DPO & you have to prevent for that cycle to make sure you aren't pregnant! So if you've been given a date of 21st August, it seems unlikely that it's for the biopsy. Maybe they've changed their protocols but just don't want you to be disappointed if you just have a consultation. Last year it cost £360 for the biopsy. Good luck!

Oh I see Tasha I see they use the antimalaria tablets in lupus disease. My gp did mention I might possibly have lupus but thinks clotting disorder is more likely! Hopefully hey will get on top of my issues soon. Squig I'm not booked in for the biopsy I just have my first consultation on the 21st. I was just wondering and hoping I could have my biopsy done this cycle so not having to wait but have decided against and will only have it if other investigations are negative. Thanks for the info girls xx

Hi sorry to intrude I am a user of this thread way back in 2010 after 6 losses. I saw Prof Quenby she even delivered my boy. He's now 4 😁

I saw her for diagnosis and then for my entire pregnancy. She put me on 40mg clexanr aspirin and progesterone until 12 weeks. I had APS Anti philosophid syndrome aka sticky blood and my placenta kept failing to take over when it was ready aka my miscarriages. I was scanned twice monthly by her and had a consultant appointment once a month until 30 weeks then twice weekly. Her care was fab she definitely knows what she's talking about and I doubt Ollie would be here if it wasn't for her and her team at heartlands Birmingham xx

IsaacRalph. With Quenby I was prescribed 20mg prednisilone from BFP, 400mg progesterone and 75mg aspirin but Like I said in my earlier post sadly I still miscarried.

I then went to see Mr Shehata and was tested for a whole range of things including NK cells all my results were clear, however because I'd had 10 previous losses he prescribed me a medical plan before the results were back:

One month before TTC
Vitamin D
Folic Acid
Omega 3
75mg aspirin
Pregnacare

Then I was advised to take 25mg steroids (prednisilone) from
ovulation and to stop if I got BFN.

With my successful pregnancy I took:

Vitamin D
Omega 3
Pregnacare
Folic acid 5mg (from BFP)
Progesterone 400mg (from BFP previously taken from
ov)
Steroids (pred) 25mg from just after Ovulation and increased this to 30ng when I bled and panicked at 6 weeks pregnant
Clexane injections 40m (prescribed from 5 weeks by my local specialist just to throw everything at the pregnancy)

I took all the over the counter supplements and folic acid for 12 weeks
Weaned off the steroids starting at 12 weeks dropping 5mg every 3 days
Progesterone until 16 weeks
Aspirin until 36 weeks
Clexane injections until 38 weeks when I was induced.

I am currently following this protocol again and have an 8 week scan booked tomorrow.
Since my son I have had a further ruptured ectopic pregnancy and 2 miscarriages, 1 early and 1 diagnosed as not viable at 8 weeks, miscarried at 9 weeks.
Hopefully this medical plan will work again.

Sorry for the rather long post but I hope it is helpful.

Good luck Hun xx.

Isaac Ralph - I also seen Prof Q initially, she never prescribed Prednisolone for my thyroid antibodies, nor did she advise my consultant to prescribe it when they 'chatted' about me. I initially went to her for the biopsy but she looked at my thyroid tsh and felt that was the issue so just seen me as an nhs patient and did thyroid antibody test + clotting disorder tests

Are you on thyroxine ?

I persuaded my local consultant to prescribe steroids for my 6th pregnancy but she would only give me 20mg from BFP and like LeeC I miscarried on that dose

After my 6th loss I went to Mr Shehata and followed the same protocol as LeeC, to a certain degree that protocol worked, sadly I had an aBruption at 27w and lost Isaac after 3 days in nicu

I was then prescribed the malaria drug that Tasha mentioned on top of everything I took for isaac pregnancy, I'm currently 31w3d so the furthest I have ever made it

Xx

So pleased she was able to help you honey, sounds amazing like you had amazing care. I live over 100 miles away from Coventry so if she can help my care will have to be taken over by a consultant down here (torquay ). My friends also said she was really good, she had elevated natural killers and put on a regime and had their little girl after infertility, failed ivfs and then 3 natural miscarriages.

Yeah I am on thyroxine I had to go on it after my 2nd ds as my tsh was 26 but it went to below 2 after 6 weeks and my latest tsh was 0.86 yesterday. With both of my recent losses my tsh was well below the recommended levels so something still not working. I also had 2 losses before my hypothyroidism was diagnosed and tsh only jut over 2.5 so for me I think the antibodies has something to do with it. I had infertility after DS1 so the fact that I am able to concieve is amazing but carrying to term is my next goal. From the research I have done thyroid antibodies can and does cause infertilty and miscarriages so I am hoping she will take this on board. I also had my ANA test come back positive which might indicate further immune problems so to me the evidence of it being my immune system is there already in black and white. I don't know?? I am quite medically minded as I'm a nurse in ed department so I have literally scoured the Internet for information. Did you see Mr Shehata on the nhs? I guess that would be my next step if Prof Quenby can't help me. Sorry about your losses, my ds is called Isaac, congratulations on making it to 31 weeks not long now and I'm sure you'll be taking your rainbow baby home. Good luck

Good luck with your scan tomorrow, fx'd that your baby is doing just fine! Have you had an earlier scans? Did you see Mr Shehata on the nhs too?? Can't really afford private now aftwr the infertility treatment we had to pay for! Wouldn't want to attempt another pregnancy without the supplements/ meds. I have some prog supps already and taking high dose folic acid which fertility nurses prescribed.

I was reading the other day that with each miscarriage you have a 10% chance of developing aps or similar clotting disorder! Interesting statistic I thought x

Hashimoto's is auto immune so you probably have elevated nk cells too, quite common with auto immune diseases

I went gluten free and halved my thyroid antibodies And my thyroid became less under attack , I dropped my thyroxine dose however it shoots up incredibly when I'm pregnant, I was on 150 Now it's 225

Yes me Shehata is on nhs, his nk cell test is via blood so different to Quenby . He is based in surrey x

Yes, I saw Shehata twice at Epsom on the NHS. I believe there is currently a 6 - 8 wk timeframe for appointments from referral.

The reason that I switched to Shehata from Quenby was that after I miscarried on 20mg pred from BFP, I spoke to Prof Quenby but she would not prescribe a higher dose of steroids from ovualtion. I think at the time they were running the PROMISE trials which was progesterone based.

Also I know with Shehata he told me not to TTC and to take all the supplements for 1 month prior and then to start with the steroids.

Thanks hun I had scan at 6wk to rule out ectopic, seen hb on TV scan. My anxiety is in overdrive though as it wasn't good news in our last pregnancy at 8 weeks and this is the last time that we will be trying no matter what the outcome.

xx

Lee - good luck with your 8 week scan :hugs:

Hope - glad everything is going well :)

Issac - re: Squig's post, my RMC didn't recommend aspirin in general either.

I do see a lot of women take the aspirin as well as the clexane though bluebkie! From what I have read some women have got lucky on it but for some it's not enough without the clexane. I guess to get a diagnosis is my first challenge and then talk drugs regimes. Pretty sure I'll need something though. Now I have fully thought through having baby #3 I'm more determined than ever now. I want this so bad I'm willing to try anything!

What was your tsh running at when you saw the prof? Had you been diagnosed with hypothyroidism at this point? X

When I met prof q it was at 9, then 4 weeks later it was at 42!! Prof q diagnosed hypothyroidism x

May I join you ladies?? I just had my 4th miscarriage .. 2 early 5-6 week miscarriages and 2 mmc around 10 weeks..
My first 3 miscarriages were before my dd.. I begged for testing and my dr was not compassionate, didnt care and wouldn't do any.. when I got pregnant with dd she put me on progesterone only because I was pestering them so much.. I had some issues during dd's pregnancy that they never took seriously....
When I got pregnant again with my last pregnancy I kept asking my dr for different things (progesterone , blood work) and always felt like am inconvenience .. the final straw was I called because I thought I had an infection and the nurse could care less, told me if I was that concerned to go to the er... I had had enough so I called another ob, who I truly believe God led me to.. she has been amazing.. met with me and dh for an hour and talked to us about so much, she said we should have had all the testing after the third miscarriage .. but since I was currently pregnant we couldn't do any testing.. she increased my progesterone.. she offered scans as often as once a week for my sanity, and she was truly concerned.. when we found out the heart stopped she was the most compassionate I'd ever seen a dr be, she helped me a lot and vowed to get to the bottom of this with any and all testing until we get an answer..
I'm so thankful for her and glad we can do testing and hopefully get answers but I hate the waiting !!!

Ahh I see so it's understandable that was her main focus to get your tsh back to a good level at the time Hoping that as I already have diagnosis and already at desired levels she will help with prescribing steroids as I really think I need them. Like I said my tsh is 0.86 on 75mcg of levo, was on 100mcg but it was too much for me and slightly hyper on that. Feeling much better now!

Hi pinkpassion , sorry your going through this too, it sucks! I remember you on the 1st trim threads and was routing for you that all would be well with your latest pregnancy. From my short experience on here the girls are lovely and most have been treated successfully eventually and either pregnant or has their rainbow xx
