Recurrent Miscarriage Thread

Hi, ladies, can I join?

Just went through my second mc in four months, both blighted ovums.

Just background info, I am 26, have somewhat diminished ovarian reserve/high fsh, have had two blighted ovums (one from my second fresh IVF/one from a frozen transfer) and was diagnosed for high nk cells right before my frozen transfer.

Has anyone heard of or worked with Dr. Braverman? My RE referred me to him to get some answers and I spoke to him today. He believes I have "Silent Endo" and wants to do a full-immune workup and possible Lap surgery.

Welcome Flora, Dana & Beneath, but sorry you find yourselves here.

Welcome ladies, I'm sorry for your losses.

I've heard of Dr Braverman, I think he does a lot related to immune issues?

So I saw my OB GYN after my second miscarriage and she had some really strange things to say about both my miscarriages. I had a blighted ovum in November, discovered at 9 weeks during the ultrasound, had to take cytotec for that around 11 weeks. Then just a week and half ago I had a miscarriage at 5 weeks. So she said that it was good news they were both two different kinds of miscarriages and that it probably won't happen again, and also said that neither has anything to do with my egg quality and both are flukes. She said that my blighted ovum was the result of the "sperm knocking the chromosomes out of the egg when it hit" or "two sperm hitting the egg at once" and that my miscarriage at 5 weeks was due to not implanting and the embryo just "tried to grab onto something on it's way out, possibly tried to implant on the cervix or a polyp". I thought that hcg isn't produced until implantation but she insists that my type of loss ends due to failure to implant and has nothing to do with my eggs. And she ordered an SIS ultrasound to look for polyps. Thoughts? Everything I read says that early miscarriages and blighted ovums alike are usually due to chromosomal abnormalities, and what she's saying doesn't match anything I have ever read. So what do I believe? I was hoping she would give me ideas on improving egg quality and now she's saying both are flukes...

I would tend to believe your dr... early miscarriages do usually occurs due to implantation issues, probably started to implant and for whatever reason couldn't or didn't. .. the blighted ovum would be a chromosomal issue by her definition. . So I think it lines up with what you have read!! I've read over and over its not very common to have more than one blighted ovum , so if that did happen again there would be reason to look into it.. if another chemical happens then I'd say you could look into uterine lining issues, progesterone, baby aspirin or whatever!! Good luck hun!!

I had 2 chemicals in a row, I was thinking lining problems too... I even waited to get my period before trying again and I lost that pregnancy super early.

To the new ladies- I'm sorry you find yourself here as I wouldn't wish RMC on even my worst enemy but this thread (even though it's gone a bit quiet in recent months with ladies graduating to the PARL thread) is wonderful.

AFM-dr just called. I'm homozygous for MTHFR C677T gene mutation as I suspected. It's FINALLY an answer. A long awaited answer that explains SO much. I also got my treatment plan updated and now I don't need to pay for a consultation appt as we were able to discuss it over the phone so bonus there. Feels very much like a 'whew' moment...

Good luck pink. I hope you get some answers too. I know for me, it's been an eight year journey and I feel so happy to finally know WHY.

All my and dh results came back clean!!! I did tell my dr I got a bfp this morning. ... she put me on baby aspirin and progesterone again! She wanted to go to the next step of testing but can't now but that's ok.. I had some more extensive testing today on my Thyroid and some kind of diabetes testing or something, I don't remember!!!

Well good luck Pink - I hope that does the trick for you this time! :)

CurlyMikes - Thank you for the encouragement :)
I was taking metformin before but I'm trying to do things without it because the long term effects of taking metformin are pretty bad apparently. I was taking 150 mg clomid but I am now doing the progesterone treatment. I'm hoping this will work because it seemed to do so for my sister who has Hashimotos disease and had to have her thyroid removed due to developing cancer in it as well. She is now pregnant by accident and her chances of conceiving again were VERY slim.
I actually had the same thing told to me when I found out at 16, as well lol
My old doctor said that I would never conceive naturally if at all. With how bad my pcos is she seemed pretty discouraged that it would ever happen. My current doctor is discouraged as well but more willing to help get my cycles regular and get one of these babies to stick!

Dairymomma - that is quite a bit to go through :( I'm glad that you have your rainbows though!! Hopefully your next one is just around the corner!!!

Dana_scully - I have heard that having a tilted uterus can make it hard to carry to term... I would seek another doctors opinion, but I think that it is a fixable issue :) not entirely sure though.. I haven't looked up answers about that on the all mighty Google yet lol

Forgot to get to everyone else ×_×

I have had one blighted ovum so far and my doctor claimed that they usually only happen once and the most will go onto have healthy pregnancies. But I have read that it is all based on genetics but that taking the appropriate amount of folic acid will help to avoid those if it happens to be caused from some sort of deficiency.
One thing I have found out is that a lot of women drink green tea to get pregnant and it inhibits folic acid from being absorbed so it is BAD for ttc and early pregnancy! If you are drinking that or taking pills with it in it then stop :S

What blood tests do they do when you have had 3+ losses I'm the UK?
I saw a nurse yesterday and although I have only had 2 she was lovely and is testing my blood, doing full blood count, average glucose, thyroid, lupus, clotting, iron levels and something else to do with iron, b vitamin levels a s a coupe others I forget. Took 7 vials from me in total!
Has she done most things they would do at recurrent miscarriage clinic to start?

Sounds right to me Flora, though if Hope39 is able to check in, I'm sure she'll confirm - I never ended up being completely clear what all I was tested for though I have copies of all the results (but I'm in NI & things aren't exactly the same here). My husband & I also got karyotyping after our third loss.

Hi Flora, I think that sounds about right, plus the karyotyping as Squig said. My GP did a rheumotology profile, I think it was for any auto-immune issues x

All tests have come back ok-Lupus wasnt done as they ran out of blood to test so having that re-done..but otherwise all is ok.
Not sure if happy or sad about that though..happy im not 'ill' but sad theres not a treatable cause of the MC so I can have a better chance next time-V confusing!

My tests have come back normal too. I have heard that it is in fact a good thing. A friend of mine had 3 losses, tests came back normal although her third loss was tested and positive for trisomy 16. Anyway, fourth pregnancy was totally fine. Sometimes it really is just "bad luck". How many losses have yoi had?

So I am on my first period since my second loss. I am able to get pregnant very easily except after a loss I dint seem to ovulate properly. My temps go up but dont get a positive opk and dont get pregnant. Anyway, I am debating whether to try this cycle or wait one "normal" cycle then try. Part of me wants to get back at it, but also I got pregnant the first real cycle after my first loss and lost that one at 5 weeks so I wonder if I should try something a little different this time.

Anyway, just rambling on here, Im guessing others have had similar thoughts though and figured this would be the place to come and bounce the thoughts off people!

Had 2, one in may at 7 + 2 weeks and 22 days ago at 9 + 3 weeks so back to back. We had a scan at 7 weeks last time that showed baby with a HB and then 2 weeks on I started to spot and a scan showed there was no HB anymore.
I have had 3 children previously with no problem, 2 with the same partner I have now.
I have been using opk since but no +..I do think AF will arrive soon as I have cramps and the rage. Last time I had a period 5 weeks after and then got pregnant on day 17 of that cycle which was the first I Ovulated since the mc, so I hope to get AF and then a + on around day 17 again. I will be trying again right away despite losing the last one from doing the same as I dont think it was he mc before that caused this one. I have been scanned and had a 8 mm clot left and that came out the day after so I know I am ok in that respect and my pregnancy tests are negative now also meaning my hcg is gone. I really do think it may have just been 2 lots of bad luck for me, so I am hopeful but terrified still of getting another bfp to have to lose that one too x
