Hi, my 6 1/2 week prem daughter is now 10 weeks old.
For the last 5 weeks she has been in pain whilst and after feeding and projectile vomitting.

We have had numerous visits to the doc, was prescribed Neocate milk which didn't help much, was then prescribed gaviscon which helped with the vomitting but not the pain.

Today she has been prescribed ranitidine to take also.

How long until this works??

Ranitidine was a temporary fix for my lg im afraid as it is for many others. Only saw a really improvement when she started Omeprazole. Shes on neocate, omeprazole, domperidone and gaviscon. Its much better controlled now x

My lo was diagnosed with reflux at 2 months and given ranitidine, which helped with the pain but not the vomit. At 3.5 months we discovered his milk allergy and switched him to alimentum, which helps with the vomiting, but he still needs the reflux meds for the pain. I would say the ranitidine started to help imediately, but took about 2 weeks to take the full effect. Everyone kept telling me that with the medicine, the reflux would get better, then level off, then get much better, and that was pretty much true.

My kid is on ranitadine and it took maybe 2 weeks to work. I am noticing it having a lesser affect now but I haven't changed the dosage to suit her weight which has obviously gone up. It hasn't made her any less pukey though. But that only started a few weeks ago so i don't know if she's just a pukey bub or it's reflux

It did work though.

We're on ranitidine and gaviscon here. Lifesavers them both. Ranitidine worked within a few days. Hope it helps your lo

This was same for my ds1.. although wasnt on neocate.. he was on nutricia infatrini.

we are not starting the process with ds2 who has started spitting up very often from little bits to completely covering himself. Also trying to work out if he has a CMP or Lactose intolerance but docs/health visitor not listening to me :(

ranitidine doesnt stop the milk coming back up apparently, just makes it less acidic so it doesnt hurt the little ones!!

gaviscon thickening milk will help it stay down so combination of both would work at almost total control.

gaviscon constipated our LO so next stop carobel!! :)

We're on ranitidine, domperidone and gavisvon. The ranitidine is much better at controlling the pain for us and he's been on it for 11 weeks. Nothing can really stop the vomiting other than thickened feeds (like with gaviscon or carobel). Domperidone kind of lessens it... Took about 2 weeks for ranitidine and domperidone to work x

We are on Baby Gaviscon...seems to make it slightly better, although she is still sick after some feeds.

We're on 1.4ml of ranitidine twice daily. We have been on the meds since my son was 6 weeks old. He is now 12 weeks and doing wonderful. My son never really spits up he has what I guess they call "silent" reflux meaning it comes up and he swallows it back down....meaning TWICE the burn ouch! He screamed hysterically until he was hoarse and uncontrollable for the first 6 weeks of his life poor guy...poor MOM AND DAD! Once we started the ranitidine it has worked wonders!!! It changed him almost instantly, and it just keeps getting better. We have had to up the amount twice already but he's in the 95th percentile for weight....although he's really not chubby I don't know WHERE all the weight goes! LOL

Also we ordered the tucker sling and wedge on https://www.pollywogbaby.com/

That changed our lives! He started sleeping right away! we spent the first 6 weeks with him sleeping upright on my chest!! And even then he would toss, turn, grunt, and gasp for air! Plus we do the usual keeping him upright as often as possible and for 30mins after a feeding, in addition we take him to the chiropractor once a week. That has probably helped the MOST! The moment he started going there he slept through the night and was a MUCH happier little boy! I know I'm rambling but we also give him infant probiotics and that seems to help a lot too. Needless to say we do a combination of things for him to have some peace! Finally FINALLY we feel like we can function again and have a sweet little boy not a screaming purple faced demon! LOL
