courtney is ALWAYS sick... its got really bad again this week!! I sometimes here her choking!! I dont give her anything for her reflux now as the gaviscon just wasnt working!! Ill hear it through the night, liquid coming out of her mouth!! Sometimes its clear, sometimes its like just milk, and sometimes its lumpy!!

It just comes out and goes all in her neck crease etc!! Washing is constant and I am constantly on guard!! Her neck is getting red from it!! :(

Shes currently having 5 feeds a day!! 5oz each time!! Although just now she only had 3oz and was still very sick!! Wondering whether she has a little bug  would she show any other signs!??!!

Her last feed is still 11pm ish and I was wondering when your babies started having there last feed at the evening time and have a longer sleep!! Shes quite good cos she goes from 11-7ish but I know my friends baby is 6 months and she goes from alot earlier to about 8!!??!!

There are several different medicines that can be used for reflux. Give your doc a call and see if there is something else.

yeh my doc says they only perscribe if they are not gaining weight ... but she is!!

If it was a bug she would probably have diarrhoea too?

Hey kerry, jacob is the same. And its starnge sometimes he can goes days only being little bits of sick and only having gaviscon now and again and others (like yesterday) he will throw up every bottle projectile and gaviscon will do jack shit. the doc told me to come back in when he's 8 weeks and if the reflux is still as bad then he will prescribe him something stronger (think its called renideen *sp*) I know jacob can be sick no matter how much he takes. sometime he will only have 3oz and it will all come back up and other times he wil have 5oz and keep it all done

Do you find its worse at certain times of the day. Jacob is worse in the evening/late evening....?

Sorry you are still having trouble with this hun! I dont have much to suggestion though :(

Ema.... yes this is so like courtney when she went on to the sma lf... I so thought that had combatted her reflux problem!! And yeah HV's have advised me in the past to feed little and often but sometimes it doesnt matter like you said whether she has 2oz or 6oz!!

Its stressful... especially when mum, sister and other ppl feel the need to tell me EVERYTIME shes sick!! Its like I BLOODY KNOW!!

Im gonna keep pushing the docs, especially cos it sometimes causes her to choke!! I hate it xx

Hi ya,

Just wanted to say your not alone........... my daughter has it really bad and yes at times it gets me down cos like you say its not just the sick its then her clothes my clothes blankets bedding washing all time no sleep scared to deaf of the choking its a nightmare.

Phoebe is on enfamil milk which is suppose to work with the acid in her stomach and ticken to help stay down, she is also on ranitidine which helps the acid from been painful and is also on domperidone which is to get the milk out of the stomach quicker so it doesnt come back which the only thing that works is ranitidine for the discomfort nothing else seems to work she is sick constantly still, weather it would be even worser if she wasnt on anything i dont no to be honest dont think it can get anyworse.

my consultant as now advise me to wean phoebe so where in the process of this just baby rice he said she should be a lot better once weaned. at the moment i see no end. it really gets my down some times but throw it all she can be sick and still smiling thats ma girl so she handles it better than me and i just think thank god she is gaining weight and cling on to the hope that once she is fully weaned she will be fine.

I totally understand when you say about people saying she as been sick and whats up with her something not right blah blah blah.

:hugs:

Just noticed the choking bit......

Yes choking is a big part of it, phoebe was admitted to hospital when she had a choking fit in hospital and all the doctors came in and started shoving tubes down her mouth to clear it. When she was discharge i said i need to no what to do if she does that when i have her and the reply i got was they will clear it themselfs......... which i thought its easy for you to say this you have the equipment i dont..... she did this again 2 days later in the middle of the white rose, nightmare i just froze good job my mum was there to clear it. Rung consultant and he said its part of the relux and to relax that she will clear it herself.

Thanks fifi!!

I just want my lil girl to stop being so sick!! Its upsetting!! I dont think it hurts her cos as you say she will be sick then will smile afterwards!! But when she starts to choke she goes all red and her eyes all watery!!

In the night Ive often heard her and bolted right up to sit her up to help clear her airway!! like you said its not just clothes its bedding, her coats (which surely you shouldnt have to wash every bloody time) and also her play mats and her chair!! :(

oh i no its everything the play mats been in the washer a few times and surely they shouldnt go in once. i go throw at least 20 bibs a day and muslin square follow her everywhere she goes to point i can see her walking round with one at 5 for comfort.

The dreaded moment, i put her to bed just about to go sleep and you hear it :hissy: out of bed everything to be changed. its awful. The amount of times you get ready to go out and you both have then got to be changed, i cope well most days but some days i dont. she throws up clear liquid too which throw me at first cos thought she doesnt even drink water so were does that come from, apparently its stomach juices. all i get is its all part of refulx and she will grow out of it sometimes dont think they understand that we could do with some more understanding of it and some support, might not seem much to them but to us its a nightmare.

Its awful!!! Ben was given carobel. I mix feed so its really awkward. I used to bf then topup with formula, but he would just bring up the breastmilk. So I have to give an oz of formula, then a boob, and keep swapping like this. Feeds take forever!!!!!

Im glad Im not the only one who gets wound up by it... and your right... more support is needed!!

Shes just soaked her baby grow, and my nightie!! ALL CHANGE!! Shes been sick on her new baby grow as well but theres only so much I can keep changing it!!

She brings up like water type too!!

When does it get better?? anyone know?? x

Hope this helps.

Last week was an awful week and also part of the weekend.

Gabbi started not taking her milk after burping, she was not sleeping well only cat napping, she was always hungry, she would either be sick or lots and lots of spit up, hiccups all the time and sounded wet, here are other symptoms I found:

pain, constant or sudden crying
lots of spitting-up or vomiting
vomiting or spitting-up more than one hour
after eating
picky eating or eating only a few bites when
hungry
bad breath
"wet burp" or "wet hiccup" sounds
if your baby does not sleep well or wakes up
often
runny nose all the time
if your baby does not tolerate certain foods
poor weight gain or if your baby loses weight
if your baby can’t swallow well or gags a lot

I did some research and started keeping Gabbi upright for 30 mins after feeding, usually on my shoulder (other sites suggested 15 - 20 mins but I do 30 mins if it will help, it's worth it), also change her nappy before feeding (although she likes to do a No. 2 during feeds sometimes lol), it suggests feeding less and more often but this does not suit her, I've stopped bouncing her at all and only sway, other tips I found are:

keep your baby upright when feeding
feed your baby frequent small meals
don’t overfeed your baby
burp your baby well
keep your baby upright after meals
don’t bounce your baby; sway gently
give your baby a sip of water if he or she
spits-up
tight diapers or waistbands can make reflux
worse
NEVER let anyone smoke around your baby.

Gabbi is so much better, 100% although now and again we have bad days, but hey, she's only 2 months, but now I have a problem with her not sleeping at night, wanting more food at night, but after feeds she’s taken to thrashing her head around, head butting me a few times, she rubs her forehead against my neck, scratches me (not on purpose), kicking her legs, but she’s not in pain (I know what that sounds like!!), not even moaning, just very strange behaviour …… or maybe not! I would say 50% of the time after feeds I get this thrashing about. Anyone else have a baby who likes to head but you after feeding????

We often get headbutted!!! and scratched or pinched and she clenches and unclenches her fist and sometime grabs my skin, ouch! xx

Can you see another doctor as Gabriel was prescribed Ranitidine and Domperidone and he has always gained weight really well?

Apparently most reflux gets better when solids are introduced and ends at around 12 months. Some babies have reflux past this point but Gabriel's consultant has said that this is rare thankfully.

just wanted to say big  i know what its like charlie still has relflux at 6 months and the gaviscon isnt very good but he seems in less pain with it now so its slowly geting better i allways used to find it hard to see the end of it but dont worry it will get better and i would deffo ask your dr about other meds, we tryed radanitine and he wasnt much better but the dr just said it should get better at 3 months but it didnt it got worse for a bit but hes alot better now he must only be sick about twice after every feed rather then every 2 mins of the day x x
