Reflux!

well Ive started giing courtney an oz less at each feed and her sickiness is loads better!! Only problem is she has started waking i8n the night again being hungry!!

But I dont mind as long as shes not being as sick!! Dont get me wrong she still has a constant bib but its not like milk anymore its like proper baby sick!! Before it used to be like undigested milk!!

Hi hun, sorry you are still going through the mill still.....go back to your surgery and demand to see another dr and say you are not leaving until you get both the domperidone and the ranitidine as both help each other to work effectively.
Are you doing room temp feeds or warm now?
I havnt upped Tabs medicine for a while now as i should when she gains weight but there will be a time when she has to wean off the meds so im trialling it now but the last few days she has been chucking up whole feeds like niagra falls so i guess her body hasnt sorted it out yet so i will up the dose again to her weight.
Sometimes Tabs pukes because of a trapped burp....now after a feed i lay her getly flat on my lap and after a min or so i sit her up and a great big burp comes out then she wont be sick.
Do you use any gripe waters?

Ciarans was really bad when he was born my doctor prescribed gaviscon and sma soya milk both never help but not that hes got bigger and weaning his sickness is ALOT less :D still a wee tiny bit sick but it soo much betta :D i no what your going throught its soo hard but itl pass hun :hugs:

the little girl i look after had reflux and was also on domperidon and also another drug called omeprzole (sp?) she also had gaviscon with every feed. just out of interest have you tried dr brown bottle thy are supposed to be good for reflux. but i would suggest you go back to the doctors and see if they will give you anything. there are also other pescribed milks they could try, can't remember the name of the one we had now tho

there is a sma stay down but my hv said that the ladies who tried that found that their babies were still gagging (like they want to be sick) but nothing came up!! PLus shes already on sma lf!!

She has days where i think its getting better but then it gets bad again!! shes over 3 months now... it should get better soon surely :(

Girls...i have been ranting about the same problem since my daughter was 4 weeks old....she is now 12 weeks old! Nothing at all seems to work...not that ive tried much mind. But the docs and hvs just dismiss it. But my point is if i was getting sick after every feed or drink of water and still maintained my weight there would be cause for concern right?! Or even the fact that my friends daughter had the same thing and hers turned out to be a stomach infection. This hasnt even been mentioned in my case. My hv said at the baby clinic last week that it was because i was a new mum and i worried. Yeah of course im gonna worry you silly cow....my daughter is constantly throwing up like something out of a horror film...projectile! Even after a drink of water...that comes up and out too! Yes i am a new mum, but i have grown up around babies and without sounding bigheaded i know a hell of a lot more than most new mums these days! Im just annoyed at how easily they bypass this....i mean what if this sickness was something serious. What if there was an underlying problem? I dont know what to suggest or do myself about this sickness anymore...so good luck girls...lets just keep plodding along and hope one of can find a miracle cure for this sickness!

my son is on domperidone and ranitidine, hes still having problems, so there doesnt seem to be a quick cure................:hugs:

Since I started weaning my LO her reflux has improved. She was always choking on her feeds and holding her breath whilst feeding, we always had to prod her in the ribs to remind her to breathe. She is on Ranitidine and domperidone but I am slowly weaning her off them as they are quite powerful drugs and she doesn't neeed the high dosages anymore.

I would push your doctor for medicine if you feel this will help, choking is not acceptable.

my doctor was reluctant to give me more than gaviscon. the idiot argued with me that gaviscon was not 'just a feed thickener'. It is.

A week later and alex was screaming. i couldnt cope and we went to the sick kids hospital where thy weighed her. Yes, she had been gaining weight(surprisingly, as she throw nearly everything up and screamed during feeds.

But the acid in her stomach and obviously being sic was taking is toll her so we too were also prescribed retedine[sp] and domperidone.

The change was almost instant and after a few weeks you wouldnt think she had reflux - she takes meds all day, but she sure is better for it.

Definately go and speak to your GP as there are lots of different meds they can give. The fact she doesn't scream all the time, is putting on weight and smiles even after being sick is all really good as it means the reflux is mild (even though I know it might not seem like it to you).

Findlay had very severe reflux and has spent half his life in hospital because of it (despite every medicine the hospital could give him and being tube fed into his bowel as he couldn't even keep 15ml of milk down in his tummy and is just out of hospital after having to have major surgery last month so he physically cannot be sick again) and before his op he was being sick every 10 mins ALL day and night, and spent pretty much 24 hours a day screaming (even when asleep) because of the pain and often vomited blood as his stomach was so raw. He's now 7 1/2 months old and is now up to 9lb 7oz!

Basically what I'm trying to say is that even the worst reflux can be sorted so there is no reason to suffer with mild reflux.
