refusing a toddler access to toilet in a shop...

Thanks, just strikes me as a little confusing, because if a member of staff authorised the access you would think it covered them iykwim?

Nope, i just put my job on the line because i'm a kind person and empathised with the people/children who needed the toilet at the time.
It was solely on my shoulders if they were con artists who purposely fell or something. I had to stand right outside the toilet door aswell (which they thought was weird) but i had to make sure they wernt setting a fire or something stupid like that. its ridiculous.

I think it depends on the shop. Like, I know a girl who got sacked for letting a little girl with her mum to use the loos in a bookies. So some folks jobs could be at risk for allowing it.

I'd say working in a bookies is a totally different SECURITY risk! no wonder the person lost their job.
I worked in Cash office and i would never waver the rules then. Too much at stake.

its a toilet fgs ... i dont get why people make such a big deal, what, you'd rather them pee all over the floor and then have one of your staff (of whom you are paying) to mop it up?

I once had to clear a child's sick off the floor with paper towels because my work place didn't have a mop and bucket or even correct facilities to do this.
Health risk for myself not even having gloves but i did it anyway as it was more of a risk for other people. God knows why i did it really... shit job. haha

ugh, I once had to clean dogmuck off our doorstep at work, with no gloves :(

hey ladies - wow thank you for all your replies!!! did not mean to set off a mini debate lol!!!

as i said earlier i dont blame the shop assistant as she was so appologtic & felt really sorry for dd & was only doing her job, shes attually lovely & id hate for her to have got in trouble (local shop i see her most days!!)

It was a small shop - so prob not big enough for public loos. It was the company policy thing that narked me... as the lady above summed it up - what on earth has society come to when you cant even use the staff loo incase somebody gets sued... its sad really! :nope:

and to the lady that said about not cleaning it up - the assistant was litterally waiting next to dd with a bucket & mop the minute she'd started saying it was coming out!!

i will proberly start carrying a travel potty with me like someone mentioned (great idea thanks  (i wonder if they will empty it for me in their loo :haha: )

thanks again for everyone for replying :) x

it was me who metioned the travel potty and it actualy comes with a liner and a bag to put over a potty that folds down. so the bag can just be wrapped up and put in the bin. so no need to worry about it being tipped out

ile find a link to what ive got for zane when he finaly starts to potty train ile be carrying it everywhere, i hate public toilets

Policies and everything aside it's really sad for a little girl to stand and wet herself in front of a load of strangers :( hope she wants too embarrassed!

heres what ive got :)

there isnt a job in the world that could pay me enough to do that

well, I only did it because it was either myself or my colleague (only 2 of us were in the office) and I saw it first, plus a client was coming in who we didn't want to think we were complete skanks! But I was literally gagging as I was doing it.
