Hi everyone, I am aware that Rowan has become a unisex name - but when you hear the name do you think that it is more masculine or more feminine?

I didn't vote because I truely don't feel strongly either way. I really think it's a true unisex name. BUT... If I try to think objectively just by the sound of the name like you said, I would have to say masculine.

I agree, that it would suit both, but to me, it seems a tiny bit more feminine. I really like it! xx

I honestly can't pick as I've know one of each and it suits each perfectly.Sorry I'm no help!

Rowan is on my list of girl names!

Rowan is more boy to me and is also on our list of names.... I prefer the spelling Rohan tho

I can only picture a little boy with that title!!! But I'm sure seein a girl called that would sway my opinion!!

Girly for me but prob just cos OHs cousins little girl is called that.

But Rohan is a different name completely to Rowan?

RO-HAN
ROW(LIKE WOW)-AN

I am only thinking boy, although I haven't met either with that name. I like it though!

Thank you to everyone who replied - both me and my OH are thinking ahead to boys names for #2 (we argued for 9 months last time haha) and Rowan is a name we both like but I am concerned it might seem girly.

Maybe spelling it Rohan would eliminate any doubt? But I'm not sure I like the pronounciation of that. Hmmmm.....

All the Rowans I know are boys so I think of it as a boys name . x

I don't think you'd need to worry about it being considered feminine. I noticed all the posts saying "girl" or "unisex" were from American ladies (With the exception of Blah11, not sure whether she is in the UK?). I am in Wales like you and have a son named Rowan and no one has ever commented on his name being girly. Also, everyone assumes he's a boy when I mention him without specifying his gender.

Yay! Thank you :) Think we might have a winner then :)
Now to choose potential middle names and girls names woo! Maybe we will be more prepared second time around hehe :)
