I do it ALL THE TIME and im sure most of you do it

There is nothing wrong with it...right?

MIL mentioned something the other day about over rubbing the bump and either irritating the baby or it makes the baby rely too much on being rubbed or stroked to go to sleep or something.

Is this utter toilet talk? :haha:

I love rubbing my huge belly and feeling little girl moving around:thumbup:
xx

I do it all the time too! I think I even sleep with my hand on my bump

I love rubbing my bump especially when he's having a wriggle, I think it makes you bond.

Ignore MIL, you carry on, and baby's don't understand habits or really on things til their at least a couple months old anyways

xxx

Your MIL is talking jibberjabber! How on earth can the baby feel it? I say rub away.

I love rubbin my bump, makes me feel like I'm closer to her knowin that there's only a tiny tiny gap between us! No way will I be stopping unnecessarily lol

You carry on :D xx

he he
thanks girls :)

I too slepp with my hand on my bump i think its also a protective thing too i just love my bump
xx

ALways have my hand on bump and my mum is always saying leave her alone but I like it :)

MIL said OH's foot used to rest just under her rib and she used to stroke it when he was a bump and when he came out and cried he always stopped when she stroked his foot! How cute is that!
xx

i rub my bump and talk to bubs loads especially when shes awake, i cant imagine not doing it.i kinda feel like im ignorning her if she wakes up and i dont do something to say hi x

That's one of the silliest pregnancy related things I've heard. Rubbing your belly is just a bonding thing, and it's maternal. And the baby probably doesn't even feel it, unless you're pressing a lot; remember it's surrounded in fluid and there's skin, muscle and fat between you and your uterus, and on top of that, the wall of the uterus.

And I also heard that it's virtually impossible to spoil a baby under 6 months old. They say you should give it wahtever it wants, so there's no way you're spoiling it before it;s even born!

Rub as much as you like!

i do it all the time more now actually cause my bump feels kinda sore now i dont think theres anything wrong with it n even if it does make the baby become dependant on getting cuddles to go to sleep surely theres worse things in the world than that xx

Um yeah, cos we'd hate for our newborn infants to RELY on their mothers for anything, right?! How effing ridiculous.... next she'll be telling you not to walk around too much or LO will "rely" on the swaying and rocking motion to get to sleep. For goodness sakes!

In short - poppycock! Rub away, and enjoy your baby in utero!

I definitely spend the majority of my day touching/rubbing my belly. And, like someone else said, it is impossible to spoil a newborn, they need to get what they want from the beginning- they don't learn manipulation ("hey, if I cry, I get ____") until later on. I agree - rub away! :)

i think its fine, i sleep with my hand on my bump too :) x

Keep rubbing the bump hun, its bonding time for you and baby. I have been told its good for the baby too.

I rub my bump all the time, baby seems to respond to it too! It comforts me and hopefully him as well

well thats just daft, i plan on touching my baby when shes born and hugging and just loving her hehe. why not do it when shes in my belly.
i think somtimes people just like to say things just for the sake of it lol.

Ha ha!!! Sounds like exactly the type of thing my MIL would say!!!

Just ignore her and enjoy bonding with your baby!

I'm always rubbing or having a hand on my bump. It kind of worries my mom when we've been out shopping or something though..she thinks there's something wrong haha
