I am just wondering if, as a stay at home mum in the uk you are entitled to any benefits, or is it a case of because you choose to stay at home rather than work then you won't get any help iykwim?
does it not all depend on your household income and what your oh earns as to weather you get any benifits from the goverment? i think if you do get benifiots then you are encourage to go to work and have to have back to work interviews ect!
not to sure though as ill be a sahm but we arent entitled to anything as we have alot of bussiness! x
You can claim Child Tax Credit and Child Benefit. I don't think the mother is eligible for anything else, although her partner may be able to claim Working Tax Credit, Council Tax Benefit and Housing Benefit if on a low income.
Thankyou both for your replies It's not something we can consider for me this time (deciding to be a sahm) because OH will hopefully be going back to uni this year, so i will be going back to work, but i guess i am thinking ahead for the future. It's something i'd love to do but was wondering whether it would mean literally having NO income other than OH's wages or if there was anything you would be entitled to claim.
