I'm a salaried member of staff (as opposed to hourly) and I had 2 days of sick last week.

My pay is down by £150 for the two days.

Is this right? Can they do this?

Depends on your wage. I was salaried - take home about £250 a week. My daily rate was therefore about £50 a day so that's how much I lost if I had time off. Also depends on the sick pay policy of your place of work. May be worth checking this too.

It sucks!

Yep, it purely depends on your place's sick policy! They are perfectly within their rights if they either pay no sick or you have exceeded the amount of time off they allow :(

As above. When I was on salary I had to have a sick note for every sick day off in order to get paid

I assumed that if you were salaried then you get paid for any sick days, equally we don't get paid for any overtime we do. It seems a bit unfair to me. Does it specify that you won't get paid for sick days in your contract?

Ok, just checked :)

We DO get sick days paid for, but because I am still on my 3 month trial I don't get them until I've been contracted properly.

Makes sense! Bit of a shame though!

Yeah that is a shame! My place pays 6 sick days a calendar year. I think this is fair but certain people always take exactly this number, dodgy.

I'm salaried and i get 6 months full pay sick per yr and paid overtime :D

We get 5 INSTANCES of sick leave - they could be a day each or a month each. Anything over that and you dont get paid - well you obv by law get SSP.

That is like our work, we do get sick pay and it's pretty generous but for new employees there is no sick pay for the first 6 months. Personally I think 6 months is a bit of a long time - anyone can catch a cold! But they've got to pick a point. 3 months isn't too long :) Glad you figured it out.

I was salaried and had sick pay but in our contracts it is at the discretion of the directors.

I'm salaried and it's in our contracts that we don't get paid for being off sick. My boss normally pays it though as long as people aren't taking the mick and off loads.
