The nurses were alot nicer than they sounded on the phone. Infact, one of the nurses was the same I had last time I had GD. I was put on a very strict diet, but it isn't too bad so far...just can't have my bowl of cereal in the morning which I usually like. The poking of the finger seven times a day is a pain...literally and figuratively. Eating a snack two hours before a meal is proving hard too, as yesterday I took the kids swimming, and missed it, so then my blood sugar was a bit lower than they want. Then since we went to another city to swim, we ate out, which was a challenge since I have to count carbs (60 for dinner) and have to have two veggie choices, one fruit, one cup of milk, one protein, and one starch choice. Haha.. I ended up having a plain hamburger on half a whole wheat bun, no condiments except mustard (no carbs) and a side salad with milk. So, it wasn't enough fruit and veggie choices. Day one and I messed up.
My blood sugar was good. That is another thing. I have to test exactly one hour after the START of my meal (and eat in 15 minutes or less)...but, I didn't have a watch. Luckily my glucometre stores the sugar levels and times...so that is good. I am sure I will get used to it all...the 15 minutes exercise after every meal, etc...it is just habit, right? Anyways, for the most part, my blood sugars have been in the 5's after meals, and 4's before meals...except in the mornings it has been a wee bit higher than they want. I go back on Friday and they look it all over and make tweaks to my diet or, if needed, add insulin. I think I will escape the insulin, for now.
Hope everyone else is well. x
