Im rapidly approaching 18 weeks with my first baby. I would like to breastfeed him as much as possible. However I am also looking into bottles for a few reasons. If i pump and store milk my husband can help feed our LO while I catch up on some sleep, or if we are in public. Does anybody have advice in regards to what bottles would work best with this situation? Also should i go with glass or plastic?

Ive also posted a poll on here for the best rated baby bottles Ive found so far if you ladies could vote on what you prefer. Sorry, This is my first and im finding myself in over my head lol. I never knew i would have so many questions. Thanks in advance!

I bought tommee tipee and Avent bottles I think I prefer avent but tommee tipee are nicer to hold. It is good to have them there just in case, I bought them before birth and did use them so I was glad I did until I got BF established. I didn't even know they did glass bottles but I would go for plastic personally just seems safer.

Obviously have to put the little disclaimer here about it being advised to wait for six weeks before trying any bottles, so you can establish your supply and avoid nipple confusion. I personally prefer glass bottles and this is for a number of reasons. The first reason is that while nutrients and antibodies didn't used to cling to the older, now banned types of plastics previously used for baby bottles, they do to the newer, BPA-free plastics, with the glass every little last drop comes out. Secondly, I prefer expressing into glass because glass bottles are a little bit heavier and sturdier so the bottle stays still while expressing, also I am not sure why but I find the pump suction is more effective with the glass. Thirdly, some women have a lot of a harmless enzyme called lipase in their milk, this is something that helps your baby to digest the milk but if you have a lot of it, the milk can start digesting in storage which means it can smell soapy or even sour-I had this problem when storing in plastic bottles or freezer bags but glass is fine. Last reason is I live in a hard water area and glass is the only material that can thoroughly be cleaned here, plastic bottles are soon completely wrecked by limescale. Unless you have a stone tiled floor or are giving the bottles to an older baby to feed themselves or play with; glass bottles are very safe-the glass they are made from is extremely thick, much thicker than the glass used for ginger beer or milk bottles. You can also buy protective sleeves for them from some places; if you're at all still worried xx

Oh and I use NUK glass bottles; not sure if you can buy those in the US xx

I vote for glass bottles, I chose Dr Brown as they are the kind I have used.
