Seeking help from a UK doctor

hello MK8
...just saw that you are 30 and on ttc cycle 4... exactly like me!!!!!

I'll find out if clomid helped when I have my long wanted BFP... 3 DPO today... FX!!!

Many UK NHS specialists will give clomid before doing any invasive procedure, it's usually the first step if the problem is anovulatory cycles. short LP or not mature eggs, they usually give 3 months and check the size of the follicles you are producing...
my therapy would have been the same here in the uk.
going private of course is different, they probably want to do things well and check everything before, this is good... just didn't want to loose time...

i am due to change job and i would like to have a baby before i start the new one... i am due to start in february, if i conceived this month the baby will be due in the end of february which is already a bit late, but i'm positive i can postpone the new job until the beginning of may next year so... I have this cycle and the next... then we'll have to put our baby plans pn hold for a while... so we hope we'll have a bfp soooooooooooooon!!!

have you seen a doc yet?

big hug

Hi Want2bmum. I am actually on cycle 6 of TTC, so a bit longer than you. But here's hoping June's everybody's month for BFPs eh?

Went to docs and I don't have cancer! Woo Hoo! The doc said my "Free Androgen Index" (tests for PCOS) was slightly elevated but my internal ultrasound confirmed that I do not have ovarian cysts. So he gave me the all clear on that. He couldn't confirm if I am ovulating as I would need to do 2 sets of bloods for that- CD2 and CD14/15. He wouldn't test me for that for another 6 months (and he thinks we have been TTC for 1 yr!) Sigh. But I think I will just see what happens naturally for now. DH may go for sperm analysis but I will leave that up to him to decide. I do not want to add too much pressure to this for now.

I also asked the doc about the weird fishy discharge I had last week and he said it sounds like an infection that I fought on myself as the smell has gone now.

I asked him for "tips" also which made him laugh and he said to just lie in bed post BD. I already do I yelped!

How are doing today?

hi

good that only the free androgen is a bit elevated, as my specialist says this is only a snap shot of the situation taken in a random month, this is to say that it could well be that next month the value will be lower...

why isn't your doctor referring??? :growlmad:
this is sooooo upsetting... on the good side 6 months is the average time for women our age, so june may well be the month :happydance:

i have 2 cousins that recently had babies, they they took 5 and 7 months and they never ever worried there was anything wrong... sometimes i think i worry too much :dohh:

how are you today? feeling better? :hugs:

Awe, want2bmum, youre such a sweetheart for asking. Thanks! :)

I am doing better today thanks. Went to work, had a manic day and going to head out for dinner tonight with hubby and my cousin who is staying with me for a while. It's my bday this weekend- ripe ol age of 31! DH is treating me to a break away somewhere in England - surprise destination :)

Thanks for the info on the free androgen index. I was fretting a bit earlier today wondering whether I do actually have PCOS but just at that time, no cysts were hanging about in my ovaries. I thought that cysts can come and go with PCOS?

What were your periods like?

And more importantly, how are you doing? :)

hello :hi:

PICOS is used to refer to a syndrome and it can affect individuals at various degrees, many times it affects the ability to conceive.
having elevated free androgen may be a consequence of picos but a slight elevated value without any other symptom is unlikely going to cause infertility. When you see a slightly increased value, tests have to be repeated the following month and with more accuracy as there are higher chances of mistakes. what I have noticed here in the uk is that GPs are very quick to diagnose picos in the majority of women without really doing all tests to confirm, I find this annoying and distressful. There are many cases in which ovary cysts are not present even in the picos population, this is a good news as it means that ovulation is going well and follicles are not being trapped in cysts... still, i think that many more tests are needed to give such diagnosis.
here they never test for insulin levels which is one of the indicators of picos, they just give metforming (which lowers insulin) without knowing if the person needs it... metformin isn't toxic at all, this is why it's given so easily in over weight women, they figure: she doesn't have regular period, she is over weight, it's picos for sure... but many times it is not!

my periods were never regular, spanning from 30 to even 60 days. I didn't know if i ovulated on my own, had initial blood tests at the gp here in london 2 years ago and he said there was some indication of picos but we didn't explore further as i wasn't ttc at the time, then i did the blood tests in my country few months later and everything was fine, everything back to normal and it has been like that since. Done again blood work few months ago and still everything perfect.
The only thing is that I have elevated basal insulin, which is not diabetes as my blood sugars are fine, now, this could have been an indicator of picos but since i don't have any other marker then it is clearly not. on this matter doctors have different opinions, some view it as a predisposition to diabetes, some to picos.... either way i do not present any of the 2 diseases as for now.
in the end, by charting and paying more attention, i discovered that every time my ovulation was delayed i also reported stressful situations in my chart, so putting all pieces together we understood that my late ovulations are due to my perceived stress. because i cannot tell to my brain not to stress (actually the more i try not to stress the more i stress :dohh:) the specialist in my country decided to help me with clomid, at least i will have good and on time ovulations. she prescribed clomid only after repeated and specific blood tests over the months and even years. i find it much better than in the uk, nhs specialist wouldn't have done all this in depth blood work to try to understand...

i also think that charting gave me a much better insight on what was going on in my body, so i would advise everybody on doing so....

i wouldn't worry too much if i were you, you are still in the average time ttc for age, have regular periods and only 1 value was a bit elevated, no cysts and no other problem :happydance:

i am sure you'll have your bfp very very soon :thumbup::thumbup:

i am cheering for you :wohoo::wohoo::wohoo:

I am 4 dpo today... this waiting is killing me :brat:

Thanks so much want2bmum. You have certainly provided me with a lot of information. I assumed that Clomid was prescribed because you had PCOS, I never knew it was also prescribed to generally regulate periods! You learn something new every day!

Thanks for your kind words also. I also hope that you get that BFP very soon.

It's my birthday this weekend and hubby is jetting me off for a weekend away somewhere in England. I cannot wait!

Try to preoccupy yourself with other activities during the TWW! Out of curiosity, do you stop trying during the TWW? Or do you regularly BD throughout the month in case you do ovulate later?

Take it east Mrs, x

wow, I am sure the holiday will be very very nice... a breath of fresh air... I am going on holidays in the end of june to my country... i am secretly dreaming of giving them the good news!!!

i chart my bbt so when ovulation occurs, the software highlights it after 3 days and it is sure... so at that point we take a rest from BD
we r not 18n anymore

then as days pass we bd some other times which is for us more enjoyable as at that point we don't have the ttc pressure :haha:

good luck for everything hun

keep me updated on how things go and don't forget to update me on your bday celebration :drunk:

hey want2bmum...

had a wonderful birthday with the hubby :) how was your weekend?

your trip at the end of june sounds fab. i really hope you get your bfp soon! :) where is your home country?

totally agree on the not 18 anymore. haha. however, dh and i are trying to dtd every other day this cycle. even after im pretty sure i am past ovulation. we also tried the sperm meets egg plan to no avail. how often do you and the mister bd?

hello mk8,
glad to hear that your bday celebration went so well.... hopefully you r going to have a holiday BFP!!!

Hubby and I tried the SMEP without success so for the first clomid cycle we followed the specialist advise which is to BD every other day starting from day12 up to the day of O. Because I chart BBT I am sure I ovulated at cd20 so this plan worked out perfectly. After O we just BD as we please, just for fun as it should be so I don't even report it in the chart...
The specialist said to do it each other day without failing as at 48 hours, OH swimmers are at top condition..

We are both from Portugal, very hot there now, so hopefully will be catching some sun in the end of june...

where in London do you live?

our week-end has been really fun, we had a friend over and 2 bdays to attend... busy but always nice to keep our minds off symptoms spotting... hubby is worst than me ah ah ah ah

well, another week of work begins tomorrow, let's try to enjoy it... I have been so so tired lately, could have slept for ages... maybe is the change in temperature...

will keep you updated on my DPO symptoms.... real or made up by my mind... which is incredibly able to do it...

Where in you cycle are you at the moment?

xx

hey want2bmum... portugal eh? lovely! a friend of mine is going to portugal for their family holiday. :) i have also booked a trip in july- croatia here i come!

really hope that you get that BFP. do you think you will tell many people when you do? :)

I have never been to croatia, but i heard it's beautiful!!!

if I get my bfp i'll tell my parents, hubby's parents and our brother and sisters... I am dreaming of having a dinner with the two families together and give them the good news...
i try not to get my hopes up... but it's so hard!!
our parents always ask when we are going to have a baby and because we don't want to tell them that we are trying we just reply that we don't want any for now.... but i think they suspect of something... we r terrible liars!!!

when are you going to test hun? I think the earliest i can test is by june 14th....

i want days to pass faster!!!!!

xx

Mk8 I've just been reading through this thread, my hubby is getting SA results next week & we've only been trying 9 months. I was told by the doctor there's no time limit for a man only a woman . I've also got a Zita West book & she recommends the man getting checked after 6 months x

hey want2bmum- how you doing? af got me so on to cycle 7 now!
