Although we are not expecting, I just wanted to get some opinions from you all out there :) DH and I agree 100% on our future daughter's name, but just cannot agree on a boy name. I like ONE name that he has ever chosen, and he doesn't like any of my suggestions. Although I don't love the name we actually agree on, would I settle and still name our child this just because we won't agree on anything else?! What would you do?

I settled on my daughter's name. It really suits her and I think as she grows up it will continue to grow on me. To be honest there aren't any girls names that grab me and hold me (lots that I love for a few months but then 'get over'). When we were trying to come up with names when I was pregnant I didn't really have a favourite but my husband absolutely adored Abigail. I liked it but it didn't thrill me. I still didn't have any better suggestions when she was born, so Abigail it was.

I think a lot of it was that I put too much pressure on myself to find a name that was perfect. I see now that even though I didn't love her name when looking at it in a baby book, I love it now because it's hers. So my list of girls names for the next is long! I just put down whatever I like and know that as long as there's something I dig about it that I'll come to love it once it belongs to my baby. :)

This actually makes perfect sense to me, thankyou. Although not exactly the same, this happened with my dogs where I didn't love their names, but now I do because it's theirs and it fits them.

Btw I love the name Abigail :)

I settled on DD's name and I do regret it. Her name does suit her and it is a nice name and it was actually me who suggested it for our short list, but if I had my time again I'd push for another name which I prefer. Saying that the other name was a contender for us. If your DH doesn't like any of the names you like then it is probably best to compromise if you like (but don't love) one of his suggested names.

Thanks for the advice. I'm not even sure I "like" the name. I just don't mind it compared to the other (hideous) names that he has ever mentioned. I'll keep trying. We have time :)

If our next is a girl we will no doubt settle. I have never found the perfect girl's name and loved it for more than a few months. We were team yellow with LO and still had no girl's name when he was born.

Eek! I'm too much of a control freak to let that happen :haha:

We have numerous girl names, but only that one boy name that is just okay. I love 2 boy names but DH isn't too keen :(

I am too but there was nothing I could do, I just couldn't find the right name! It was awful! But I was always convinced he was gonna be a boy, and of course he was, so maybe that's why? But I think we'll have a girl next and I'm not even pregnant yet but obsessing over names in order to find the right one!

Haha I'm the same! And when we think of names we like, I always want to think of a sibling name to make sure they sound good together!

Oh my, the name issue is one that I'm not looking forward to.

I have several boy names that I like pretty well, but only one for a girl...and I get the feeling "Sagan" is going to be a hard sell.
Cant even explain why I love it so much, lol, but it just feels right.
Not a clue what her name will be if it doesnt grow on DH.

So I guess I'm prepared to settle on a girl's name I might not love, because to be fair, there's only 1 name on that list...HAHAHA
I'm positive that one from the "like" list will grow on me, like Staralfur with her daughter's name...and I'll grow to love it, because it's hers.

Can I ask the names you guys are leaning toward?
..I'm terribly curious
:)

I have never heard of the name Sagan! How is it pronounced?

The boy name that we "sort of agree on" is Taj William. I'm pushing for Jude or Abel.

I know what you mean and I think it's ok to settle. We decided on Autumn Jade for our girl but OH isn't keen on Jade, but he said he'd let it grow on him. With our Son Zachary, I didn't fancy the idea of having OH's name in his middle names but I decided it doesn't matter :)

A middle name I would definitely settle on even if I didn't love it. A first name is a bit different. I will admit, I hated Taj at first, but slowly have come around to liking it. I think it might just be the spelling that I don't like. I just think J's are funny at the end of a name. Unfortunately there's not another way to spell it! :haha:

It's ok to settle. I've come to realise there isn't a universally perfect name for your child like I wanted there to be. If we have a 3rd girl her name will likely be Jessica. Doesn't thrill me but it's a nice name that we both like and we can only hope she will like it too.

I ❤️ Abel, I was trying to convince DH on it earlier in the year, but he feels it's a bit too biblical for us 😕, Jude is gorgeous too. If u really love them more than Taj then I'd really keep trying to twist his arm. Would he not be willing to have it as a middle name?? Do either of you have Indian heritage or cultural influence, as it sounds very Indian to me? Xx

Taj is a wonderfully interesting name (sounds rather Indian to me as well)

I love love love Jude!....hmmm, I see your predicament.

Ok, here's what I'd do, since you're still waiting a little longer to start trying anyway... Continue to stay on the lookout for other names that could appeal to you both more equally and keep a short list mutually available, so you can both look at the names regularly...(and perhaps add to it)...giving names plenty of ability to gain or lose appeal with time....

If all goes perfectly for you guys, in about a year you could be 6 months along or so!!!!!
If it IS a boy, and you just can't imagine calling him Taj, talk out you're aversions to each other's choices. Whichever name is disliked the least is the one, and you son will fill in the gaps where the name itself is lacking.

Sagan, Sage for short - (Say-gehn)...means "wise"
I absolutely love it, and had at one time decided that was my first child's name, regardless of gender. Now it's reserved for a girl. Sounds strong, unique without being "weird", and has a great meaning! :)

My sister came up with excellent names for my nephews!
Milo and Dawkin (or Dawkerdoodle, as I call him...my little Doodlebug, lol)

Yes, it does sound a bit Indian (Taj Mahal), but alas, we are both extremely white :haha: DH picked the name because he is a surfer, and it is the name of a surfer Taj Burrows.

Yeah, that's what I've been doing. Glad I found this forum too for some suggestions! I can't get past Abel or Jude though :(

Sagan is a cool name. At one point I wanted Sloane (DH hates it) - sort of reminds me a bit of Sagan.

I love Milo :)

Just wanted to chime in - I know a beautiful baby boy named Sagan. To be honest, at first I was quite unsure of the name. But now that I have gotten used to it - I LOVE it!

It really grows on you, doesn't it?!! :)
For me, it became the one name I just cant let go of...

Hey Buffy, what do you think of Cason (or maybe Kason)?

Just came across it in another forum and thought I'd pass it on for consideration.
