So im planning on conceiving number 3 in a couple months, and wanted to know if anyone else had extreme pain after the shot was aadministered. With my first child the shot pain was worse than labor itself. It felt like my spine was going to explode out my back. With my second i was putting off the shot aslong as i could cuz it scared the hell out of me, but labour pains won and i opted for it again. I don't. Remember it being too painful probably because the labour pains masked the shot pain considerin . It felt like i was literally being stabbed in the crotch with a knife. So heres my question. Did the epiduralshot hurt anyone else, and if so if you had multiple pregnancies, did it hurt with each?

I didn't have an epidural hun, but did have a spinal block as i was rushed into have an emergency c-section. I ended up not needing the c section in the end but the spinal block had already been administered and already taken effect. The only side effect i can say from that was a severe headache the following days and a little tenderness in my back where i presume they injected.
Hopefully someone else can help with their experiences, but didn't want to read and run :)

I had an epidural with my first because they were trying to keep him in for a few more hours and it didn't hurt at all to be honest. I had a spinal block with my second and that didn't hurt either.

I only had mild back pain afterward for a couple weeks.

I only had one epidural and I don't remember it being any more painful than a needle is in general. However, don't forget they inject a numbing medication before the epidural so that's why usually you may just feel a "normal" needle pain. Maybe you anesthesiologist screwed up and you weren't numbed properly for some reason. Maybe have them check ur numbed before the epidural this time

Yes... I made them stop as I was screaming in pain thought my legs were going to explode! Never in my life had I thought that I would have a nerve reaction like that. The dr had never seen any thing like it either!

Mine was completely pain free - fortunately - that sounds awful. x

The day after my c-section with DS2, I had horrific back pain from the spinal. I BEGGED for pain meds. I'm hoping to goodness I don't have that experience this time. :(

My epidural was the easiest part of my entire delivery, to be honest. I had just a lil backache type pain as he put the cath in and said so so he added more numbing med and I was perfectly fine after that. I did have a sore spot and a nasty backache later but not during the pregnancy. I developed a bad fever though so I ended up with an emergency c-section after having a sort of convulsion but I would get the epidural again without hesitation. (I think I would have ended up with a c-section no matter what to be honest!)

Ya I'm so sorry Hun...my numbing shot was no more than a sting and then there was cooling and a strange sensation but no pain at all! :( I feel like the epidural has so many variable and the dr administering has so much to do with it. I'm so sorry you had that!!

Yes but a different kind of pain than what you're talking about. My doctor said my back was too boney and small and so it was difficult for him. He numbed a lot but I was so horribly uncomfortable and the numbing shots were just not what I wanted to feel ontop of horrible contractions. I felt the catheter only a few times when he was searching for the stupid spot but yes. It took them about 15-20 minutes (felt like 6 hours!) to get it in.
