Sometimes I can latch right and sometimes I can't, so I've been reading up on making sure her lips are flanged and tips on how to encourage a wider gape etc. but I don't know how I'll ever manage to try any of these things as I haven't got enough hands or strength as it is.
LO goes from asleep to ravenous within seconds so when at the breast she is constantly grabbing my nipples with her fingers (oh my god sharp nails on tender area) trying to put her fingers in her mouth at the same time as my nipple or bunching up her fists under her chin. I've actually pulled a muscle in my hand attempting to hold her still (cross cradle position). So I feel any attempt at calmly applying pressure to her shoulder blades and ensuring the chin drives in to my breast while using my index finger to gently pull down on the chin is sooooooooooooooo far away from realistic. As soon as her mouth is at all open and her hands are out of the way I shove my boob in and it is so demoralising when I realise it isn't right and I'm going to have to unlatch her. My midwife has discharged me as she says my latch is fine - but I know it isn't always/often (especially during cluster feeds when she's more ravenous) and so I'm not even sure who to contact for help. Are the la leche league quick at responding to requests for one-to-one help does anyone know? I've not contacted them before now cos I feel as she's gaining I shouldn't be complaining but I'm getting to the point of dreading each feed because of the pain and emotional effort of fighting her to get her latched.
