DD is 1 next month, she has been walking around holding onto furniture for a few weeks now and moves like the flash. However she keeps slipping on our laminate flooring. She doesn't keep socks on, so gripy ones are out the question. I'm wondering if some prewalkers might be a good idea, just for that extra grip. Its just too cold IMO to go around bare footed.
Do you have flooring? How do you get around the slippyness? Are prewalkers a waste of money? Should I let her just walk around bare foot?
She has taken a whole one step, I highly doubt she will be walking before she turns one, but I'm not too worried. Just not sure if I should bother buying some shoes now, or waiting till she can properly walk.

what about slipper socks, with the little rubber bits on the soles? I have no idea how effective they are, though!

We have laminate flooring and just let DD2 cruise around bare foot. She pulls her socks off a lot of the time anyway. I've found she actually slips a lot less bare foot than with socks on. A lot of people recommend not putting shoes on babies until they are properly walking, and even then only put them on them outdoors.xx

I let DS go barefoot. I did buy him some moccasins last winter when it was really cold.

My daughter was always barefoot when she was a new walker. If she absolutely had to wear shoes, it was soft sole (think Robeez).

I love Robeez. They keep the feet warm in cooler weather, don't slip and they stay on the feet! For girls you can get Robeez slippers that look like sandals. Very cute.

If it's really warm than barefoot should be fine. My kiddos both like to be bare foot.

Check out pediped!
They have cute, soft sole shoes for pre-walkers/learning to walk. I think they do about 3 different stages. Barefoot is best, but these are a close second!
When my DD began walking, I noticed it was much easier for her in pedipeds level 1, than any of the other brands we tried (and we tried a lot).
We didn't use shoes until she was walking and needed foot protection - but it sounds as if your LO needs some now, IMO

My DD cruised around barefoot to begin with. Once she was doing the drunken stagger while holding onto someone we got her some prewalkers from Clarks.

My DD is starting to cruise and we let her go barefoot most of the time. She isn't terrible for pulling socks off so we can use grippy socks/tights too but barefoot is actually better for grip :) We won't get her shoes til she's walking outside.

Moccons! They're absolutely brilliant. Just like socks but with a rubber sole.

Thanks. Will have a look at the ones recommended. Her feet are always so cold but that might be normal.

Wait til she can properly walk. Besides just being an unnecessary (and not especially cheap) expense, it's really good for her to be able to feel her toes. I would just have her barefoot. As long as she's otherwise warmly dressed, she won't get cold not wearing socks, and it will be good practice for learning to walk and not slip, after all, they really recommend having them not in shoes at all when they start walking unless outside, so she'll need to learn to navigate the laminate flooring without slipping eventually. Might as well be from the start. It will be good for her balance and helping her learn to walk confidently when she's ready.
